- During scanning, there is a first roll to check if the scan was successful. If it was, a random planet is picked from the galaxy. If the planet that was picked has cloaking, then a 2nd roll takes place.
- If the planet's cloak is greater than the ship's scan rating, the scan will fail.
- Cloak is only one line of defense, and relying on it exclusively is not a guarantee of protection. However, if you can get the cloak of a planet up high enough, it will be a challenge for anyone else to find it through traditional scanning. Equipping five of the most powerful researchable scanners available (Continuum Analyzer-Mark III) will only give a ship 4800 scan strength, so it would take a very extensive set of artifacts (both temporary and ship modules) and likely the Explorer Profession as well to get a high scan strength. - Planetary cloak is completely ignored in the case of a critical hack.
