Research is one of Galaxy Legions' resources, it is gained through planets that have research producing Structures and your Scientists hired onto your ship. Research is used to gain new Equipment and Structures by "researching" the nine research trees. These being....

Contents

Advanced Weapons

By researching this line one will gain access to new and better Weapons for one's ship, Turrets for one's base and Minefields for one's planets. If there are planet modules for a particular tier, the player gets access to those at the same time as the first ship weapon on that tier. If there are base modules for a tier, the player gets those at the same time as the second ship weapon on that tier.

Overall Totals

The following table gives the total research required in each branch of the research tree, and the number of tiers and sub-tiers per branch. This is for information only, ask on the forum or check with your legion mates to get an idea of which branch you should be working on at any given time.

Research Branch Number of Research Tiers Sub-Tiers (a.k.a. Levels) Total Research Required
Advanced Weapons 14 40 6,581,000
Advanced Power Systems 20 50 20,055,600
Shield Systems 12 33 2,221,400
Stealth Systems 13 37 7,422,200
Advanced Armor 11 30 4,357,000
Defensive Systems 13 37 8,412,200
Advanced Sensors 11 31 3,792,200
Planetary Construction 14 30 7,456,200
Legion Base Research 11 22 118,048,000

Overall Totals: 178,345,800 Research over 119 tiers and 310 sub-tiers.

Research Contract

Once you have performed enough research an option to turn your research directly into credits becomes available. This option will appear in a blue-outlined box at the bottom of the screen, and will inform you exactly how many CR you can receive for the research points you have around.

This option appears to become available at exactly 47,400,000 Research points spent on other areas of research.

The exact rate of exchange is 25,000 CR for 1 Research point.

This 1000 Research points will get you an offer of 25 Million CR. Here is an example text lifted from the game interface

Research Storage

In the early game you are likely to focus quite heavily on research and this will be reflected in your choice of planets. As a result, Research is likely to be the first of the 3 resources to routinely overflow its storage capacity while you are away or asleep. Research storage increases by 150 RP for every rank gained, while Mineral storage increases by 500 per planet owned, and Artifact Storage by 1,000 per planet.

Storage for Research, Artifacts, and Mining production can be further increased by purchasing storage towers from the Artifact Market using GP. As these artifacts are sendable, they can also be traded with other players for CTP, Kurenite, or other artifacts. As of May 2012 storage structures change hands for approximately 500 CTP each; however some players have been know to offer them for as little as 400 or less, while short-term auctions have seen players offering over 700.

Also, the Polychoron Vault may be created in the Collective Theory Lab, this artifact will increase all 3 types of storage by 1,000 when deployed on any planet.

Collective Theory Lab

When you have completed all branches, or at least researched modules and structures to a point where you can no longer afford the installation costs, and your Legion Base research allows you to contribute to your base at its current level, you may wish to put excess research into making discoveries in the Collective Theory Lab. Follow the link for a more detailed explanation.

The costs start at 2k research points per attempt and rise to 36k RP per attempt for the 18th and last discovery, while the difficulty in finding the next new recipe continues to increase. Therefore this option is better suited to high rank players due to the cap on research storage.
