im not a begginner but i want to know does increase scanning increase the odds of getting a critical hit on an enemy player when attacking and with NPCs does it increase the odds of finding rare ones? if so how much scan do you suggest i get

Yes, scan does all that. As far as how much, It depends on your level. I would suggest that you keep at least 1 of your best researched scanners and any artifact scanners you have found.

Adding more scanning will not increase your offs of finding a rarer planet, it just gives you more opportunities to find them.

the combo of scan and cloak can help ya get more critical hacks, scan does nothing in battle, the highest elite NPC has 600 cloak so 500-600 should aid in finding best possible NPC

seriously? i always thought it had to do with hull,shield and weapon strength (and # of decks in some mathematical ratio) didn't think scan or cloak would have anything to do with a battle

Scan increases your likelihood of scoring a crit while cloak decreases the odds that opponents strike crits on you.
