Between a decent scan and now a pretty majesty cloak due to raven, hacking has almost become fun. I can only hope past the current raven follow up mission that blues have a nice future battle market purchase. Gaining 40-80 blues a night also helps on leaderboard stats, and free research?? SAy waaaaaaaaaahT?

I don't have the strongest ship but from Last years Qpedd I added 2 QPedd Assembly Line 3.0 to my ship. Since then I have only had 2 Crit return hacks. And better yet my little rank 891 ship, a lot of 1500 ranks and higher have trouble hacking me. In fact I blue badged a BT friend and he tried to hack me with no success, and laughed about it. Scientist do count as crew and they all help with Hacking.

crew doesn't matter at all for hacking, crew matters for raiding.
