I thought the first one went great: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=-. Here's another part 2 legion mission. Read and provide feedback. Thanks!

Legion Mission Part Two Missions Series

Carthyne Symposium If you succeed… The Symposium’s Elite

Thank you for your participation in the Carthyne Symposium. Your work here was much appreciated. We were up 13% thanks to your efforts.
It was a pleasure to participate in this session. We learned a lot from our fellow researchers.

That is the humble intention of the symposium.
We’ll be on our way soon. Thanks again.

Actually captain, the success of this event has led the board to create a more elite level of the symposium for those who contributed the most to the symposium. We would like you and your researchers to be the guests of honor.
We would enjoy that honestly. Where and when will it be held?

It will conveniently be this week and here.
That works out nicely. I’ll let the crew know that we’ll be staying a little longer. I’m sure they enjoy the shore leave. Do you need any help with preparations?

I think we have everything under control. The Rogue Science League seems to be occupied elsewhere now that the symposium has passed.
Sounds good. Let us know when the other teams are ready.

Enjoy your stay and the event.
Thanks again.

***Note, those who didn’t participate in the symposium do not get to select a task.

Task 1: Warp-Pack Research
The Rogue Science League has launched a new vessel based on the XRP-Prototype. Technology from the XRP Warp Station has been streamlined and developed to form a module capable of being outfitted in smaller vessels. Hunt them down and harvest the hardware from the wreckage. Lock or kill 5 XRP Shuttles.

XRP Shuttle (Rank 400)
Only a few in existence, the XRP Shuttle has far outpaced the previous XRP Prototype. Groups of ships may find her difficult to take down.

5-man elite.
Hull: 250,000
Shields: 100,000
Attack: 25,000
Defense: 30,000
Cloak: 8,000

Task Reward: XRP Warp Park II Parts
Upgrades XRP Warp-Charge Pack (max of 100% at 25% intervals), when fully upgraded modules upkeep and size decrease by 50%. Full upgrade is XRP Warp-Charge Pack II.

Task 2: Advanced Hydrodynamics
The research we performed at the symposium was promising with the Chthonian Exchangers, but there has to be a better way to develop this technology. Continue your research.

30 hits of 800 energy, 5 tesseract containers, 5 mass storage pods, 15,000 research points.

Task Reward: Chthonian Exchanger II
Converts a plasma planet into a Chthonian planet. The planet’s size will decrease by 1. Artifact and mineral will then become 75% of what the planet’s research resource was. Research is then none-existant.

Task 3: Paranormal Activity (optional)
We have received reports of paranormal activity on some chthonian planets. Do what you can to find more information. Scan plasma planets and see if there are signs of paranormal activity before exchangers are used.

5 recently scanned plasmas. Scan takes 2500 energy, 100 quantum flares, and 100 cloning pods.

Task Reward: Chthonian converters
Planet structure: size 1, artifact 1, mining 1, research 3, attack 500; if built on a gas or plasma, bonuses are doubled. If built on a chthonian world, bonuses are tripled.

If the mission is successful, all participants are awarded 5 relic badges.

Interesting, but why plasma -> cthonian ? I don't like this at all.
And it does not fit the description of cthonian planet (see wikipedia)

I'd better make a terraformer that only works on cthnonian planet instead. A Cthnonian Morphogenic Enhancer, perhaps.
-> Randomly increase all richness of a planet by 1x, 2x, 3x, or increase the size by 1.

or

-> Increase the size of a Cthnonian Planet by 1, and starts "Accelerated Rotation" event on the planet. (+100% production, indefinitely)
>> you can QSE to VM, then make it Colossal.

---
5 recently scanned PLASMAS ? Well, this is too unreliable as plasmas are not natural... but +3 prod is never bad, though... so it's must be hard to get... (why +9 res on a non-researchable planet? lol :P )

Well, I'm looking forward to your suggestion on the Vorean Extinction :P All of your ideas are well written, I enjoy reading them...

Thanks bud! I worked as a writer for a long time. Once I get an idea, I can write anything. Anywho...

Chthonian as a term actually deals with spiritual or paranormal energy. It comes from Greek Mythology. That said, since it's an upgraded Chthonian Exchanger, I thought it should work on an upgraded gas planet.

Why +9? hmmm...so people have a use for all of those optimizers and data kernels laying around.

And 5 plasmas would be a lot of scanning and purging. More tuned for upper ranks who have boo-coo purgers and energy laying around.

I really like the idea of sequels to old LMs. For one, it's fun to expand on them, for two, it makes jaded old-timers less likely to whine every time they come up :P

So a big +1 from me.

I do have some critiques, though:

Warp Pack II: people who are deck conscious aren't ever going to install this, even at half size, because it is redundant; people who don't care about decks already have it installed anyway. I think this reward would be improved just by doing the standard 40%-200% upgrade with an ability or % buff at the end. No size change necessary.

Chtonian Exchanger II: definitely more intriguing than the old one, but IMO, the reward for starting out with a 19x Colossal Plasma (nice, VM arti planet in just a few clicks!) is almost too good for a single legion mission reward, IMO. Personally, I think a variation on the "accelerated rotation" idea that only works on a Chthonian planet would be superior: it would cause more people to actually sign up for the original Chthonian task without grumbling, and allow them to create neat (but not OP) planets.

Chthonian Accelerator (only works on Chthonian Planet you own):
  • Cost to use: 500 Energy
  • +4% production "acceleration buff," repeatable up to 8%
  • +1 size, if less than VM
  • +1 production stats if highest stat is 21x or less

I don't know about you, but if I knew my "lame" VL 2/3x Chthonian planets could someday grow into 22x VM planets with an 8% production bonus without having to use QSEs, suddenly, doing task 1 of Carthyne Symposium wouldn't seem like "taking one for the team."

Anyway, that's all I'd change. Love the ideas you've been coming up with!

Love the feedback! My response:

Warp Park II - idea being that the RSL advanced their tech so effectiveness went up and cost went down. Hence the higher stats, smaller size, and smaller upkeep.

Chthonian Exchanger II - Chthonian is a Greek term for everything involving the Underworld, I guess that'd be possible with the accelerated revolutions, but not in a gaseous form. I picture a gas/plasma becoming Chthonian when the molecules are cooled to become a solid mass. Like the RSL, our researchers are developing a more efficient technology with better payouts.

What do you think?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chthonian_planet

while yes, the term comes from Greek myth, I think that link defined Chthonian better (well, I just realized I spelled it wrong all this time :P )

-> Warp Park II -> Warp Pack II
Like the idea of smaller size :)

-> Like explained in the link, Chthonian planet is made when the gas (or ion, in case of plasma) is stripped from it. I'd rather not make another 'useless' planet 'degrader' like the one we get with Carthyne Symposium, instead make the original Chthonian planet is more usable :P hence my idea of 'chthonian accelerator' or anything that improves it :P

Right but if the gases or ions are stripped away by a local star, all that's left is essentially a charred rock/ball of metal. What would rotate? The Chthonian Exchanger II could take a x19 Colossal Plasma into a x12 (If i did the math correctly) Very Massive Chthonian. So 3 terraformers and 5 crystals later, it's x20 arti/mining. With optimizers and kernels from this last lepus mission, you could get the research up to x17. so a VM planet with x20, x20, x17 is the result. could even throw on a reality transfuser and get rings, moons, or ACR.

No where near as much to do when you take a VM x17 res gas into a VL x3 arti/min Chthonian. 12 terraformers, 4 crystals, a QSE, and a morphogenic enhancer. Maybe a couple other toys.

But I am enjoying this dialogue!

The paranormal activity is a fun aspect since it forces the scientists to believe in something they can't prove exists. Now they have to  mwhahahahaha

Anywho, the whole LM is about more efficient technology
