i think i can scan like 1100 planets with around 15k scan.

It seems to level off until it gets to a very small % like 1-3% before it goes gray. That portion stretches out over more planets at higher scan. 23 planets to halve from 100% -> 50%, then 32 planets to halve from 50% -> 25%, then estimate about 41-42 planets to get to 12%. |

If it helps in any way, i currently have 320 planets in my database and 2288 scan, and the box is greyed out with a "very poor" scan rating.

Thanks Luke, however your scanning may have been higher than this when you first greyed out, unless you've only just greyed out. If I drop my scan to 5000, I'll still have 752 planets in my database.
