Okay, so I posted about this a few days ago. I figured the responses I got back answered my questions. They didn't, apparently. During combat with a ship almost the exact same size as me, I noticed his dmg compared to mine was pretty high, especially considering my damage is well over 2x as much as his. His defense is near 2x as much as mine, but my attack is almost 4x as much as his defense. He is hitting closer to my damage cap than he is. Here is visual evidence. The probes and deck space are all listed in bottom left of photo. also, link to old forum post: http://galaxylegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34979
thanks for input

Wow, that screenshot is tiny, hard to read. By my calculations, your attack against him should result in:

Code:
Damage Cap   Defense   Attack   Min   Max   Avg
   171         471      2,112    87   155   121

Based on the standard formula
DmgCap*Tanh([0.6 to 1.6]*Attack/4.8*Defense)

+1 to ICBLF's calculations.

If his 471 defense is twice yours, then what's to explain?
You both hit equally ineffectively against basically undefended ships.

There's some great calculators from Thunderbolta here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=31472 if you want to run some numbers yourself.
