A use for all those tiny crappy planets you hate.

i think if you pay for it , it gets a little more personal, I think a purchased planet if attacked all structures could be destroyed but not taken or fluxed, maybe a time limit on when you could begin to rebuild

I like the idea of having defensive moons for your planets, makes a nice tidy space for the weapons I WANT to equip to my planets, but don't want to sacrifice production for.
Not sure if most of the 'tractor beam' ideas would work for that though.
How about this idea: the "Planet Grinder" gives you some amount of "Planet Dust" depending on the size of the planet destroyed. You can then use the "Planet Dust" to create moons above planets. The Moons would be another tab on the Planet window, and can only support Attack, Defense, and Stealth items. Any artifact that provides those bonuses can be placed on the moon as well, but any resource bonuses they provide are ignored.

make size of moon candidate small to large .size of planet determines how many moons it can have in orbit . less say average size planet one small moon or 2 tiny averahe using earth or mars as examples megacollossal can have 2 large or 6 average or 10 small or 12 tiny.

There was my idea earlier... zophah wrote: Instead of moon slots, how about making a total size limit? that way a dyson could pull a single very large into orbit or pull 7 very tiny planets.
Also, I believe that a moon doesn't provide a separate level to defense, but has cumulative. So a moon's 200 attack, 100 defense, and 150 cloak would add to a planet's 500 cloak and the planet/moon system would get 200 attack, 100 defense, and 650 cloak.
This also means you can load up a moon with cloaking and it will hide your planet!
I also think total production should add together as well, so the production of 2 minerals and 1 research of a trash planet could still produce after the orbit is established. With the last part meaning total building production, not total resources (to clarify a point someone made about my post before).

The problem with removing them from the list I think, for either moon or destruction, is that the planets left to scan would start to increase in average value. While this sounds good to all of us, it does change the game balance. More planets would be generated until they all end up being decent (worth colonizing) or destroyed. Should nuke and destroy an unoccupied planet for minerals heh.

Realistically of course the moon has to be smaller then the planet it is orbiting to be classified as a satellite....for obvious reasons. Hell if you were going to do that then why not two big planets orbiting a tiny one used as a barycenter?

i did not read over all the post so don't no if this was posted, but we should combine this with the home planet idea. I think it would be cool to put moons on a home would. have both ideas would be grate .

The idea of a homeworld has mostly been shot down for either being unbalanced or on complex rules of ownership (namely what happens when someone steals it). I would prefer to keep those ideas separate in order to ensure the success of orbits.
