I'm very rich right now though. I won't have to worry about that for another 2-3 months. Again, how will you able to affort 1k CTP by sitting around and slow ranking? Lets say you're able to afford one toxic, how will you afford the planetary build cost? One planet build with +12s and +1200s cost 1b+. What if you were to update your planets? You'd be broke, that you have to ask for credits.

Good point there.
If the worst comes to the worst, it'd be as simple as throwing on a few +4's, and switching my ship to all hull + defense to drop upkeep.
Even then, I know people that would give me a loan. Or I could GP buy a flux and sell it. Or sell one of my many MIGHTY FINE research planets.

slow ranking is pointless unless you have good arti. id say bare minimum 5 k an hour not counting any base shipments. preferbly somewhere around 8k.

To the contrary i do not have anything against slow ranking, and i believe it is definitely a useful strategy, but there a both right and wrong ways to go about it if you ever plan to see any progress. if you look i did not say slow ranking is pointless, i said slow ranking is pointless unless(key word) you have good arti. as you said they are "looking for ways to make it work for them." i am telling them ways to make it work having ranked slowly with little arti production (3kish an hour) and higher arti (about 17k an hour) if as a slow ranker your goal is to become stronger than those around you (my assumption) then you need to have a decent arti per hour (numbers i gave) in order to do so. otherwise it is pure luck on being measurably stronger than another your rank unless you stay in one place for an extraordinary amount of time. you would be much much much better off to rank up somewhat to the point you can raise your arti to a decent level and then go even slower there. by the time your two theoretical paths would cross your ship would be way stronger than without the arti. as far as slow ranking goes, or any ranking speed for that matter, arti is far and away the most important production. this is especially the case with slow ranking because as you wont be taking and upgrading many planets your mining need is lessened. (untill you get to the point where you are equipping modules normally inteded for way later ranks, but thats what mylari is for) also there is a decreased need for res as you have a much longer period of time to do your research in. In the end it is your arti per hour that matters as it is the brackets prisoners charge cells androids and bots that make your ship "tough".

Slow ranking does work if you do it right, but you have to remember the rewards you get from ranking.... Such as more planets: Higher production value, a rank 70 slow ranker with too low arti will be weaker than an average ranker with high arti at the end of the day. A slow ranker with too low minerals will eventually have their tech outpace their MP if they aren't careful, and will not be able to make upkeep.
NPC's: NPC's for a slow ranker are a pretty big no-no as they give out too much experience, in order to find the good ones you basically have to wait till they fall in your lap, whereas everyone else goes out and finds them, giving them more Harvesters/Troop Carriers/Labpods improving their planets.
Better/more elites: You can see a lot more elites at 200 than you can at 70, this leads to better mods and more CTP
Slow Ranking does work, but you have to make sure you're doing it right, at the right rank, and with the right production.

thanks for the last 2 posts - i think these would clearly help anyone in this situation decide whether or not they are slow-ranking in a way that will work. kudos to you both for providing your hard-won wisdom.
for myself, i am slow-ranking, but it's more of a side effect of trying to get onto the raids and hacks leaderboards before i hit rank 100. everything i've read indicates that it gets much tougher at higher ranks and i'd rather finish off all my yellow, blues, and as many reds as possible while it is relatively easy. note that i've been working on this goal since before the medals came out, so those were just a nice bonus.
but i've also played other games where the 'fast' rankers outpaced the provision of new content by the devs, so i wanted to avoid that at all costs.

I personally hate slow ranking, tried it once, the game got boring for me. With the right amount of artifact production (20.5 per rank) I pace myself normally.
