In communications to ships (that cost 5 energy) and other comm-relevant areas of the game, apostrophes and other punctuation will NOT show up.

There is no good reason for them not to, I'm sure.

What is wrong, and how much trouble is it to code a fix for them?

I have a reason. Sometimes, people are really thick about smileys.
Need I say more?

+1 anyways.

But seriously YES. Apostrophes are needed in the comms, do not have the slightest clue why they are not already.

I think it has something to do with the way the input is sanitized... You know, to protect against SQL injection...

Yeah. This topic was covered beforehand. To allow such characters, Dan needs to create his own 'codename' for the character and have it set in javascript to replace that codename with the character.
example:
User inputs '
php converts it to apostro
goes into database as that
user sends request for page
php pulls and returns values
javascript converts apostro to '
user sees the special character instead of nothing.

So why can't we go for it?

Not sure. I just tossed the point out there. It wouldn't take too much to make.. Just have an individual php file to store the list instead of relying on database and call it as a class to call it's functions (cut down on the load) but it also depends how GL's code is structured and whether or not it takes a while to add into.
