You should focus first on research to get better modules faster. Then mineral to pay for expansion and your growing upkeep. Then, at higher ranks, probably starting at 300, you may start padding up your artifact.

Go PvE a lot to get planetary improvement artifacts (especially the Toxic Purifier +2 mining on Toxics). That way, you should save on invasion cost and planet slot, while increasing production significantly.

WHAT?!? BAD ADVICE! BAD ADVICE!! Keep your artis above your research. Research and mining is easy to get, arti is not. DO NOT wait until around 300 to get your arti up.

personally i would keep research and arti in the same output range. yes i agree waiting till your that high ranked could backfire.

At rank 200, aim for:

2.5k mning
3k research
3.5k artifact

And those are the minimum of what youy should have.

Well, I knew that having *counts* 15 planet slots open was hurting my income, but I didn't quite think that my resources were 2k behind overall. Lol.

So protip: Don't have 15 planet slots open. It is what comes if you rank up too quickly whilst spending 3 months researching +12s, and therefore cannot research sensors. Yeah. I haven't taken a planet in 60 ranks. That's just how I roll. Like a square.

thats 15K arti storage you could have if you filled those slots.
and 3250?? for mining i think.

But its also not worth it to just grab crap planets to have the storage. only take the BEST possible planets of whatever type your looking for.
if you don't, youll regret it later on.
the difference between 20 so-so planets and 20 good planets, is a few K of whatever resource they produce.
Dont take anything less then avg ER or MR either. size and richness is most important. and size comes first. you can always enhance planets later.

1721 mining
2661 artifact - (working on +10's)
3237 research
8 slots open, didn't know that was the minimum, need to go on a scan run soon then I guess.
Upkeep is under 300Mill so mining is more than adequate right now.

only way to ditch them is to have someone invade them, which if their crap, is pretty much unlikely, or to spend a lil $$ and buy FB credits and then GP in game.

Yes you CAN upgrade ANY planet.. BUT, it takes 30 days to increase a planet from RICH to 15X, do you really want to start at a lower richness and on anything less then an ideal planet (IE MASSIVE or bigger)

I recommend keeping Very Large/Rich as a minimum. You can adjust the size down by one if the resources are better - L/VR, Av/ER. Don't go below Small size, and ideally don't defend the smaller ones at all.

A Small planet can hold

2 +12 structures
3 +1 artifacts

On a 1X-3X world, this can get you around 200 AP if you're an Excavator. A world like this has two added bonuses - while it's giving you good artifact production, the really big guns will stay away from it. Is Mento going to to pay 100Billion+ to invade a world like that? Not likely. If a weakling takes it, you can just take it back, brick it, and Temporal Flux. And if you *do* lose it, it's easly replaced.

Only do this for Artifact worlds, of course! Small planets for any other resource will almost certainly not be worth it, unless their X's are insanely high.

Other suggestions:

NEVER take a Volcanic world, unless it has crazy artifact structures on it to extract. Toxics can be boosted to 16X - Volcanics can get a single +1 by becoming Demons. It's better to take a smaller toxic than a Volcanic. I have a small 16X toxic that still produces 400 Minerals an hour, which is nothing to sneeze at, and wayyyy better than any Demon worlds I have. Your mining worlds should all be toxics or mission planets. That said, your mission planets should be focused on artifacts, but there's no harm in tossing some Tri-Phases and other highly efficient structures on your mission Dyson to cash in on its invincibility and efficiency.

Take as few dedicated research worlds as possible - you eventually won't need them. If you do take one, try to make sure that it has decent artifact production, so you can swap it over later. For example, VR Arti's, ER Research is something you can switch over later to produce solid artifacts.

Avoid Gas planets like the plague, UNLESS they're Very Massive. You can later make them into Colossal plasmas, which have two virtues - you can make them 17X and concentrate your research into a few small places, allowing more room for Arti worlds. You can also just plasma a crappy VM gas and use it for a storage world. 75 space for storage and defenses makes such a world ideal.
