I would like to see a levelling confirmation button show up when i level.
I know that i am not alone, levelling before i expected to and not being prepared for it... ie: having all my cores installed, and relays offline, etc.
I have lost so much energy this way...
More coffee in the morning is not helping the issue, and neither does hitting the sack earlier at night...

I disagree with this. There is already a counter up there that shows your experience points, if you can't watch that and figure out when to do the changes why should you get the advantage. If you pay attention you deserve the extra you can get, if you don't then you lose out. And yes I have not paid attention to it and lost out plenty of times. That taught me to pay attention.

That taught me to pay attention. well I was over 1000 xp from levelling once and a bunch of boss NPCs went down and made me level up. Even with this concept, there are a lot of tricky bits. Can you use all your energy while the button is there and is it applied to the next level?

I find it very tedious to have to remove and replace my relays and other energy-reducing items before leveling up (which I always remember to do). I would like it if when you fully recharge (from leveling or whatever), your energy is set to your maximum not including the relays etc. Alternatively, it could be made easier to (un)install modules. Perhaps there could be presets where you bind several modules to a button, and pushing that button (un)installs all of those modules.

I rermember there being a thread about how relays are semi-redundant in their punishment. I know its not an exploit, but it almost seems that except for the damage they incur, being able to just shut off relays right before leveling makes their disadvantage kind of moot. Albeit, then again, everyone gets highly frustrated when they rank up, losing on precious energy they could have had. And as already argued, there can be times where ranking up is out of your control, thus robbing you of the chance to shut off those relays. (and turn on cores, where like me, i only keep one online while in PVP mode).
As for the confirm button, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that tool. How often do we inch as close as we can to the needed experience, only to get within 4 points of ranking up, and then clicking one too many times, or doing the math wrong cuz we forgot we had a neural implant on, or some npc we forgot we had locked SUDDENLY gets finished off and xp gets handed out, this button would allow us to dump remaining experience into the next rank, WITHOUT ranking, thats it. If I can regain all my energy back so I can level en masse, then I can have a simple confirm button. This would be very helpful for the earlier ranks too, who are spamming missions and not even realizing they are close to ranking up and do so without even realizing it.
Do we need a disadvantage? Sure. While I like to inch as close as possible to the rank cusp, so I can then spend the energy on the biggest XP pay out, giving me a big head start into the next rank, if necessary, you can eliminate that. You can purge any and all earned xp while the button is on waiting for a confirm. Thus wasted energy if you drop a big chunk into a rank you aren't officially in yet, or just a small amount since as mentioned above, we have an xp counter, and we can get right up close to that rank then cross over, without much waste.
Whatever its punitive cost, this is a great idea. Even if one day relays didn't reduce max energy anymore...

What would be really cool is if unused energy rolled over during level-up. That way, when an NPC appears, with 3 energy remaining and 200XP to level-up, buying energy would be reasonable, and I bet DAN WOULD MAKE TONS OF MONEY from more people buying energy, too.

Just leveled up due NPC kill with no reactors. 500 energy lost : ( So, hell yeah, good idea. Sure it's an anti-stupid button. But do implement it. Idiots(like me) are people too.

That's me too!!!!!! However I think part of the game is being alert and not leveling until you have the right mix of energy devices on/off line. Dan just leave it the way it is. About a fourth of the time I screw up but it's part of the game.
