My research has been out of control and of recent I decided that I needed to make a vault planet. When I was newer to the game I was intrigued by the idea but I want to make sure that the planet isn't worth taking (I know that any planet can be taken, I just want to make it so it isn't worth it).

-As such, I put it on a Massive Metallic with crap resources (Abund/Sparse/Abund).
-I only intended to put research vault structures as I partook of the earlier GP artis that acted as a vault/resource producers. With those bad boys on my mission planets, I've never come close to being capped out in either mining or artifact production. So there are 5 research vaults.
-I filled the rest of the space with
2 antimatter minefields
2 astrocore habitats
3 habitation modules (to potentially give sabs a wasted target to destroy)
And the rest was filled with planetary shields (don't have obviator shields yet).

This gives me a grand total of 24k defense, 2k attack, and 1k+ population.

So my question is... Is that good enough? Should I make it tougher? I'm at the stage where I get plenty of barrier nexus' and that could distinctly increase the planetary defense. There are plenty of other arti buildings I could put down as well that are sab proof and thus would potentially increase the safety of the vault. But would you guys really exert the effort required to overcome those defenses as they now stand, just to get 5 research vaults?

Where's your cloak tech at? If one of the top legions scans that or buys the scan from someone, you're out 5 data archives. 26k total invasion defense just means we'd have to bounce it around the legion till someone gets a good invasion roll. 5 Mylarai Extractors later.... well you get the idea.

Go here for the latest discussion about storage planets.

also, use a VM planet if you can. gas ones are pretty easy to find
sure, you can't put pop structure on gases, but like darth said... it's not really gonna stop anyone to stone wall a valueable planet
so cloak is the better style to go on vault planets

and why is RP the one getting out of control?
if ur RP bar fills faster than ur AP bar (so to speak) something is wrong....

Use a flux probe and flux the planet if necessary, max out the passive cloak and keep adding cloak until its at around 16K with legion bonus, what they can't find they can't take, might take longer to do but much more worth it, just make sure you know what the maximum scan is first lol.

He's only got antimatter minefields so I'd assume he's still fairly low level and still stick it the Research is King mode.

@Firekas-max scan is a hair over 18k. 16k will be about 95% safe though

ah... well... following that logic..
i doubt he can really max out cloak even if he wanted
nor for that put up a real strong defence
tbh..... it's not gonna be safe no matter how he does it, i pray for his soul~

oh, and if he is really low lvl like that, don't really need 5 yet. 1-2 will do nicely. i expect low cap and low rate(just a bit high of a rate compared to cap)
that will make the planet less attractive to take, and more room for def building of any kind

I started playing only 15 weeks ago and have been playing hard (i.e. levelling as fast as I can around my resource production). For a more comprehensive look at my ship/play style see the following link:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17138

Now because of my speed levelling, I've skipped researching cloak and gone for a more combat oriented ship. So I have no researched cloak buildings to put on a planet.
Research 3197 Artifacts 2969 Minerals 2116 Level 180
And like I mentioned I'm capping on research because the recent GP seasonal artifact buildings also acted as a vault while still providing resource points. So by placing them on the mission planets, I get good resources and the invulnerable vault effect going on (I even purchased the max amount for the individual buildings for my first rift).

I'll guess I'll just suck it up and hope to avoid it being scanned by a top 10-20 legion. If it is, then I'll only lose a couple gp. It's only 5 research vaults.

Which, as I stated in the thread I linked previously, are easily replaceable without using GP.

make sure to flux probe the planet on a 5-6 days basis then, cause non top 10-20 would sell the planet's scan if they got the chance

on a side note.... he haven't reached the lvl where he can farm out ctp by the *beep*loads yet, gp might actully be easier. if he doesn't really care that much about spending $$, which he appears to not be seeing his statements

Uy, I've got a fair amount of ctp already. But I'm also less worried about spending GP because I'm very successful professionally. Cash isn't what I would call a concern. In fact, my GL expenses are what I'd refer to as chump change.

fair enough lol...

The tips are good though for anyone who reads this thread and doesn't have the disposable cash to pop out $10 for 5 storage buildings. (like me ;) )

lol... That's one thing I actually really like about GL. There's no sharing of GP (to a large extent). It stops people like me from funding entire legions (because that leads to crazy drama). That said, I get about 550 gp/month. Which equates to half an hour of work for me. Seems reasonable to me for a little entertainment.

and yet most non-tradable stuff is still "tradable" in a manner of speaking...

....we need a few more real good GP-only ship modules.... that'll teach the non-GP folks a lesson
something that'll give us an edge without making things overbalanced toward the GP buyers...

like....
#1... let's get that last 13 shield charge to drop our shield ticks down to one every 30 seconds
#2... 10% more scan (pushing max scan up to almost 20k counting limited buffs)

Nahhh... I like the balance of things as they are. We wouldn't want to shift it too far in the favour of someone who spends rl cash. No lessons need to be taught. I'm just familiar with other games where literally one person would spend thousands to kit out their legion/gang. And then would consider them to be his/her little minions. Things inevitably got very ugly the moment a minion decided to display an iota of free will. I'm sure you can see the logical conclusions.

With GL that's not possible. Sure there's a limited exchange of GP purchased items, but it's fairly convoluted save for fluxes and vault buildings.

the father relays are enough, I only managed to get them because my dad let me spend 10 bucks on this game.

I wasn't genuinely asking to be given GP, I was just making a joke about the disparity in our RL income levels.

I am interested though, as someone who has only ever spent $10.00 on this game (or about £6.50), and has no intention of doing so again for several months if ever, what lesson am I supposed to be taught?

I like to put a Xectiphage Tower on my Vault Planets, and et it so that Konqule, Zolazin, Siolix, and lazuli enemies cannot invade it

You also might consider putting an "XRP Warp Inhibitor" on it instead or in addition to this, as that means no artifacts (cluster Missiles) or Abilities (Zolazin Sabatuer) can be used on the planet.

Thanks for the advice Q.

Dave, no lessons to be learned. GP's are just an enabler. They make up for my lack of time due to work, kids, etc.

Actually Dave, there is a potential lesson to be learned. If you have access to GP, don't spend your CTP/in game wealth on GP artis. I'm personally hoarding all of mine so that when a natural Dyson comes on the market, I've got the aforementioned wealth plus the ability to purchase GP items in my bid to obtain said natural Dyson. That way I get a completely awesome rift.

I'd be bidding on the current natural Dyson but I've only amassed 1200 ctp and 23 billion and 110k em.
