Should I get nulls before rank 100?

Not sure if it is worth it since they cost so much upkeep wise, but I think they will help give me an edge if I get them, what do you think?

The upkeep is harsh. I'm struggling at 205, so I would avoid.

Assuming you're talking about going from Hvy AP's to Hvy Null, you would be looking at 248M additional upkeep for a gain of 400 attack. If your mineral production can support that than there's no reason why you couldn't upgrade. Now if you're talking Hvy AP to LIGHT Nulls, then no.. Don't bother. In the long run, it will cost you significantly more, especially if you are still in the swap-mod stage due to low decks. I recommend only upgrading your ship modules from Heavy to Heavy (Mk4 -> Mk4).
EDIT: Seeing your ship build post, you need to concentrate on getting more of the guns you already have researched rather than researching so far ahead that the rest of your ship suffers from low-tech-itis...

hmm, i'll just go to heavy antiprotons instead, and i'll bost up my defence up to a little bit. I'll be able to handle that upkeep.

I would wait. I got nulls before Rank 200, and Thetas by 220. I was allowed to do so because I had a good mining. Afterwards I took thetas off to substitute for other things, But Mining is the key. You need to have enough mining (at your rank) to at least double your upkeep, in earnings for the day IMO Do not get ahead of yourself. Yes you may be good at PvP, But having a set, balanced income will be far better. You can always PvP later in the game. <<1100 Post

I have 740 mining per hour atm, I concentrate on it because I know that one day it will become the most valuable. Remember im a rank 82. I have 1.9B atm though.

Ow... let me give you some advice: 1) The Stryll Transponder? Not so good. 2) The T.O. Pulsers? Pretty useless with your ship build. 3) Focus on getting the Mk3 dominions, NOT the Mark 2. If you start now you'll nearly be on the leaderboards by the time you finish, to give you an idea of the enormity of the task your setting yourself. 4) Hull. Hull, hull, hull, hull, hull, hull, hull, hull HULL! Seriously? Merged Nexus x2? Try and get AT LEAST a third hull online, if not a fourth. 5) Weapons. More than half my attack comes from non-researched modules. At your (and my) rank, it's more important to prioritise those than researched weapons.
So, make sure you get more hull and attack. To give you something to aim for by rank 120:

Stay away from NULLS you will never be able to play freely and keep up with your up keep. Defence and Hulls much cheaper alternative to be effective in pvp.

With 740 MP/hour, your probably getting 250mil/day, tops. Not enough for Nulls.

Thank you, after I get my Scruuge X-Deflectors im going to start pvping yet again. I just get so many krionus virus traps and no null fuses, it renders me usless as I can't wait hours for them to go away! I have 202 red badges now and yes I want all 4 DMK mark III's and...lol, I wanna be like you StrmAvenger! I can't resist the lure of pvp but them darned traps...

You think KVTs are bad pre-100? Try being 200. Then when you think that is bad try being 400+. It just gets worse and worse as EVERYBODY is trapped

If your focus is PvP, go hull, hull, hull! Defenses after that. I really don't think you really don't need weapons maxed out. I still have singularity launchers at rank 158 and I'm doing fine (but this is totally up to you) Save your red badges for DC Mk III's btw, my 3 fav ship mods are my 3 Protean Armories! You've gotten a lot of advice in here and hopefully you've twigged that nulls are bad at your level... very, very bad. Strm is right about non researched weapons being the bomb (both in upkeep and bang per deck space). Hopefully you've also twigged that you need a LOT more hull (proteans ftw!). Start focusing on badgeable artis (I'm about half way towards my first ray and I'm only a speed levelling 144).
The original two cents I want to add is related to your problems with traps. It sounds like you don't have enough artifact production. While I definitely get more traps from my ap, I still have more than a few null fuses sitting in my hold waiting to be used. Boost your AP while you're young and you won't regret it. It will make your ship not only much stronger, but much more adaptable.
