My friend found me on BT, and we decided to do some testing!
we found out that its not giving 40% as stated more around 35%-36%

This is my unbuffed attack and defense before my friend hit me.
Attack: 4590 / Defense: 2980

so to do the math it should come out as this with the 40% buff:

4590 x 1.4 = 6426 Attack / 2980 x 1.4 = 4172

When my friend attacks me this is what he sees:

Attack: 6226 / Defense: 3836

As you can see, the actual buff is much lower then the 40% it should be!

When your friend attacks, he doesn't get to see the contribution from tactical officers and helmsmen, only the contribution from modules. To see your actual attack and defense, he would have needed to use spy probes.

either way, the final output is not showing 40%.

The Battle report only shows contributions from modules.

when he uses a spy probe, it shows 4590 attack which is because he isn't attacking at that time :P. but if its now showing because the information we got doesn't include crew i can understand why the math wont work. very very very misleading dan! can you fix this?

Yes, my suggestion was incorrect. The Spy Probe is showing the correct amount in that case since the bonus only applies when you are being attacked.

Its a good point though. In your situation, there wont be a way for an enemy to 'see' the full attack and defense that will be applied with the probe, since the boost instantly goes into effect during the attack.

I get that, and i get why the attack shown during the battle is not showing the crew, however it is very misleading and in a way false information, why have it? Thank you for answering my question btw, everything makes sense now :P i redid my math without the bonus of my crew and it came out correct

Normally, an enemy can calculate a ship's helmsmen and tactical officers by subtracting the amount shown during battle with the results of the probe. However, with Xecti you have to do some extra math with the assumption that the 40% will be added during the attack.

that's been the case even before Xecti... that's the reason for weapon spy probes and defense spy probes.... and that's why we get so many beginners wanting to know how come they are doing so little damage to people sometimes when the attack report shows they should clearly be overpowering the person.....
