How do I make a merger successful?

There are several sister legions and i will leave the names out for now. Currently none of them are on the leader-boards and I was the leader of one of the sister legions and have since moved because i was tired of having to kill hives with only 5 people. While i love my new legion, i would consider moving back to get this merger to work for my friends.
Each one has several members over 200 and I would like to get them all into 1 legion.
Assuming excel did its math right, putting the top 50 players from this legion into 1 would put that legion in the top 20 on leader-boards.
Problems i am facing are: 1 A few people who want to be in the legion but aren't large enough in rank. - one legion has a leader who is under rank 100 and is a child with no clue what is going on 2 Some people above 200 like being a big fish in a little pond - they like dominating small legions and looking nice and strong to their little members 3 Most just don't have any experience playing competitively. - no legion wars, no rival legions, etc. 4 There are a handful of us that want a merger but don't want it to look like we are abandoning our little ranks. - is there a nice way to get people to move to the other legions?
I would greatly appreciate any advice on getting a merger to work successfully.

We recently merged to form 1 strong legion and one weak, and it works quite well. Make sure you choose the biggest base as an incentive for those you want to join to join and those who fall short can help lead the other legion(s).
As for no experience of turf wars, well, ya gotta start somewhere.
Keep in touch with your low ranks - a group page works well.

It could be a difficult thing to get all those to put their ego aside and combine for an equal goal. For each additional legion involved in that merger, the issue amplifies. You will need a respected member that can rally and get others to follow for the common goal of making a true power on the board. Its so much more than that though, you need teamwork, comradary, and the wish to share every last resource you have for the good of the team of people you spend time with daily. Many leaders in the game revel in the title and the throne atop the legion. They want to be admired and looked at, their ego's stroked anyone who exhibits those qualities will not be a good fit or coordinator as part of the merger. The leaderboard is a destination but 2 things are needed to be successful: a group dedicated to teamwork as well as a strong dedication to group goals above personal goals and HIGH lvl players
Think of any all star game youve seen, the players are each awesome but seldom do you see good TEAM play
MY advice .....find that 1 player across all legions that everyone knows and respects, have them present the merger, not as an option, but instead the the endgame that all the legions have been working for.... People will fight change if it is not directed and clearly presented. Hope to see your ideas on the leaderboard, just remember for every successful legion on the board their are hundreds that fail.

I think it might be better, instead of just picking 50 highest rankers, to take the 40 highest rankers and 10 others. the 10 others can be those who are top 100 or so in rank who are exceptionally strong build(slow rankers perhaps) or they can be those who have made exceptional VALUABLE contribution(use 1 CTP= 3 energy=100 EM or whatever for this) to bases(and thus a valuable player worth rewarding)
Other than the top 40 rankers, which is there mainly to put the legion in the ranking lists, the other 10 positions can be rotating to encourage player contributions in general.
The best base is ofc for the main made this way
furthermore, to minimize the feeling of being "abandoned", in the very least make sure all the sub-guild (after merge it would be sub-guild as opposed to sister guild for obvious reason) have the best bases possible. In fact, the top 40 rankers should probably each contribute some cr into the base as a form of "compensation" to the lowers for the upkeep.
In addition, it might be helpful to have some of the top ranked players on "patrol duty". For example, instead of taking the top 40 into the main legion, pick top 50. But 10 of those will be in the lesser legion to help them, let it be help planet attack/defend, revenge on bullies or whatever. every 2-4 weeks, there will be a rotation of the "patrol officers" (or better yet, each week 3 ppl are rotated in/out so loyalty status is kept fairly constant) This can further minimize the feeling of being abandoned.
Ofc... if a few of the top rankers are in love with their ego and the position of numbre uno in the legion... now we need 1 less "patrol officer" XD
That is my suggestions in term of plans.
In term of procedure, it would be best to draw out the complete plan (between the leaders) of EXACTLY who goes to which legion post-merge. And then, while rallying in general for the merger, try to convince each individual of their specific designations. In this way, when the merger is enacted, it will minimize confusion and resentment of "I wasn't expecting this, now I'm against it" sorta thing.
It's possible that there might be a few tough nails. In those cases, you guys should analysis the player's contributions to the base and past behaviors. It might come down to dumping them if they completely refuse to comply(and ignoring their opinion altogether otherwise). It's unfortunate, but if they are non-contribution selfish children... it would be more trouble some if they were actually good players..

Thanks for the great advice so far. It is still a major work in progress.
Leading what i would call my group is a rank 440+ 480+ and myself at 310+ While i am the smaller of the three I have proved most diplomatic.
I have since convinced most people above 200 to join my legion in a few weeks for a npc hunt.
My legion is easily the strongest of the 6 and we have 4 people who can find silthion hives so that is what we are using to persuade the others.
This is really a big experiment right now and if anyone is interested i can post my successes and failures with the merger.
