i've been watching alot of BSG lately lol an was thinking it would be cool if we could research fighters/bays to install on our ships( would have to be on ships cruiser size or larger as scouts and the like wouldn't be able to hold them)
the size of your ship would determin the type and amount of fighters you could have at anytime and we could have another rank point selection which would be fighter bay size instead of decks...5 rank points=10 to bay size =1 ship
number of fighters=secondary damage caused
a way to counter fighters would be by investing in things like "point defense system"
just a rough idea lol to get a feel for what people might think of it

That would be neat.. Fighters should add attack and defence depending on the type you buy and make. Fighter Interceptor Bombers Landers Thats cool ideal + 1 agree on this idea

Here are my ideas for fighters
Fighter-Deals seperate damage to enemy ships(notice SEPERATE, meaning it is an entirly different attack stat that has its own roll)
Bomber-Deals seperate damage to planetary population
Shuttle-Increases invasion attack and raid capability
Interceptor-weakens enemy fighters
Sheild Drones-adds defence
Suicide-Deals massive seperate damage but you lose them after use
Jammer Drones-Increases cloaking during hacks
Sensor Drones-increases scanning while in use(add a new button to actions that says "Deploy Drones")
Targeting-Increases chances for a critical hit
Sabatoge-Rolls every attack for a chance to take an enemy module offline

I was also thinking of having an Omnifighter that has a mix of all of those limit one per ship. If your interceptors can destroy the enemy Omnifighter you would get a reward of one of these: Research, Artifact, or 2nd Omnifighter for your ship.

Prior threads are here and here. The gist of the threads: Add a Hangar tab that acts the same way the weapons tab or the energy tab does on your ship page. Each fighter you add is added the same way any other module is, and takes up your deck space. Pasted from previous threadNew ideas and ideas mentioned in previous threads include, in no particular order: 1. Bombers - Reduces planetary defense, or adds to your invasion attack, or possibly destroys planetary structures (I like the reduction to planetary defense) 2. Marine Shuttle - Adds to your raiding chance 3. Scouts - Increases the number of enemies in your battle tab 4. Space Superiority Fighters - Add to Attack AND Defense, first line of offense (use these without endangering your ship) and defense (you have to destroy these modules before you can actually hit your target) 5. Transport Shuttles - These could add to the number of shares you could do in the same period of time 6. Repair Shuttles - Adds to the number of times you can repair in the same five minute period (+1 per 5-minute) 7. Larger Small Craft (Runabout, Captain's Yacht, Blockade Runner, etc.) - Could be used to guard a second planet, would have a very high deck requirement (remember, all small craft need a place to stop and refuel, and your ship is it!) 8. Mechs - Some of us think it would be cool if we could buy more of the prototype mechs, which add to invasion attack

I have, and so have other people before suggested this before and been shot down. (Pun not intended) But I agree. I think that fighters could be an attack/defense and other stuff module. Some Lazuli station has fighters and we don't?  Another thing I thought could be added are missile launchers. They work be a weapon. They take up space, and you could have like 2 of them. Each time you attacked you would fire one missile from each of the launchers barrels. If it has three, each one will fire three missiles. Every time you research a new weapon, you could buy more missiles. (Even mission missiles...PSIONIC MISSILES!!!) Then have an order in which the missiles are to be fired on each launcher, so if one group runs out, another could be loaded and fired. These weapons could also add to hull or something.

I also support this theory, not only adding fighters and aux. ships to our main ships , you could also build them for the planets. As fighter protection and guard duty.I think it is a GREAT idea.

the way I see it, the easiest way for Dan to implement fighters would probably be to integrate them into the weapon tech tree, reducing max ship weapons appropiately the way defense tech is split between Dampeners and Thrusters. Probably the main thing getting fighter ideas shot down is everyone wanting them to do everything, so limiting them to attack would be the best shot at actually getting them put in.

I've posted in the previous threads and i'll post here as well. Fighters are a great idea and i'd love to see them implemented.
Dan has said however that he wants to focus on fixing the bug and improving the existing features before he moves on to the new stuff. I'm sure this is on the to-do list but so are a million other things. There's only so much that two programmers can do.
