nothing can stop spamming. Not even "galactic gods".

I hate forums where people try to get their post count up. I don't mind a thread or two dedicated to pointless crap, but when people start just aimlessly quoting people without even responding and doing everything they can to spout an opinion that even they don't care about, it gets pretty annoying once it infiltrates legitimate threads. I'm not talking about anyone here.

There is this one geo-politcal type strategy game that I play where the examples are just intolerable. Faux-politics play a role in the game and the annoyingness is beyond drunken people discussing politics with the usual endless digression. It is even more aimless online when these people are literally ALL just trying to be "politicians" and getting their post count up by endlessly agreeing about politics that aren't even real. Not only do I not care about politics in real life let alone in a game, but the spam is even more annoying. It's hard to explain how annoying it is on that particular board. It brought to mind how this one seems to be the opposite.

Is the online geo-political game called NationStates by any chance? I quit roleplaying in there because nobody cared for real civilization role play, and prefer to do mindless wars instead. Or #*&$ measuring contests, if you will.

Back on topic, I do have one concern. Supposing this game catches on and gets more players posting, we might see the hated spammers and foum trolls show up. We're fortunate so far because we are a small community here on the forums, thanks to the small user-base that actually use the forums.

On a side note, one thing on any forum I hate is internet slang (lulz, srsly, rofl, etc.) and l33t-speak. Those who use it must be given as painful punishments as possible.

Wh@!? 0H cM0N.......Ph1nE, 1lL ED17/7R4n5l47E 17 50 7h@ 4Ny0ne C4N re4d 17. uNle55 175 U5ED 1N M0dER4710N. As for internet slag, well thats just the culture same editing rules as 733t spk. BTW I hate it when people sign their posts with their username, its a pet peeve but srsly, do you think I dont know who said it?

It was erupublik. I don't really recommend it. They updated it and its full of bugs now and more geared towards emptying one's bank account than before. That, and the politics are generally retarded and unstable with mostly trolls involved. The player base is mainly in southern europe so those countries are more powerful than all the rest. At least they pretty much hate each other. There's not much clicking to do if you don't fight, and fighting is essentially pointless unless you've been playing for over a year.

they made it more about emptying your wallet then before? how did they manage that? Back when I played it was like $5=2 years of playing.

I don't like l33t-speak because its too damn hard to read or understand, plus it shows that the writer is too lazy.

Ditto for most internet slang. Not that hard to understand, but the lazy nature of it and makes me feel "this poster can't be taken seriously". For example, when posters type in "lulz" or "roflcopter", it just sounds ridiclious. "lulz" sounds ghetto-ish or something a high school jock would say. "roflcopter"? Even worse, it seems like a heliocopter going "rofl rofl rofl" (I know its not the case, but even still). "Skillz"? Ghetto. Lose the z, or replace it with s, and it seems more intelligent.

Abbreviations like PvP, PvE, NPC, "omg", "lol" (proper "lol", not the ghetto-y "lulz") etc. are fine by me because they're English abbreviations. Internet and internet game words like newbies, noobs, bug, beta, etc. are fine with me as well.

Sorry- had to rant a bit about those aggravating forum / online chat stuff.

At least Nationstates was free.

For nation / civilization games, I prefer single player games with well-developed AI, or a multiplayer match with people you choose (and free multiplayer at that!). Games like the Civilization series, Europa Universalis III, Galactic Civilizations 2, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Sins of a Solar Empire... to name a few.

No thanks to forum titles. It's one of worse concept I faced in long time. It only generates spamfest just to bring up counts.. It sucks big time.. I'm glad that this forum has no titles in the first place..

I have seen this in all aspects. But some of the set ups mean turning the post count off in a few places. Only way I see ranks here is this: They are not based off post count, but merit from dan and the mods.

That would be about it.

I agree.

However, I'm on the fence about custom forum titles. Some can be pretty funny or witty. Perhaps make forum titles not reflect post count but rather the poster's preferences. Just a thought.
