Most other forums Ive participated in had forum ranks(like microbe up to galactic god for spore forums). Why not have them here?

That was an example of the spore forum's ranks, and you would have to have 2000 post to be a galactic god there. They would be different for these forums.

Whats the point of forum "titles"? They confer nothing of benefit except stroking some people's egos.

There are already way too many thread responses that are not substantive (wasteful) and end in:

+1

/agree

/concur

Also most of those forums have a system or moderators to prevent spamming.

nothing can stop spamming. Not even "galactic gods".

I hate forums where people try to get their post count up. I don't mind a thread or two dedicated to pointless crap, but when people start just aimlessly quoting people without even responding and doing everything they can to spout an opinion that even they don't care about, it gets pretty annoying once it infiltrates legitimate threads. I'm not talking about anyone here.

There is this one geo-politcal type strategy game that I play where the examples are just intolerable. Faux-politics play a role in the game and the annoyingness is beyond drunken people discussing politics with the usual endless digression. It is even more aimless online when these people are literally ALL just trying to be "politicians" and getting their post count up by endlessly agreeing about politics that aren't even real. Not only do I not care about politics in real life let alone in a game, but the spam is even more annoying. It's hard to explain how annoying it is on that particular board. It brought to mind how this one seems to be the opposite.

Ya to tell you guys the truth the only reason why my post count is so high is because I started on like the 4rth day the forum went public and iv been getting into arguments on here every since. Not to mention I generally post my opinion on every thread. Now as for spam, well as a mod I got to say you guys are pretty good. I rarely have to do anything beyond moving threads. IV seen some forums where they actually had to start paying mods(in game) because it so so hectic to stop all the mindless spamming and such. Im happy it hasnt come to that.

Not sure what you mean here. Is there a lot of spamming that I am not aware of? The GL forums have 3 moderators.

Mods run around editing posts to make triple posts 1 post and such, as for unknown spamming, I havnt seen any that hasnt been dealt with quickly beyond the occasional double post. We dont have rules against that (TMK) so I havnt done anything about it.

I said that because some of you guys were worried about spamming. If spamming becomes a problem, then just do some coding for an automated system, or just get a few more moderators. With how many active forums users there are, and how many new threads are created a day, I think 3-6 moderators is good enough. The STO forums have only 20 and they have over 30000 active forum users and 90 new threads a day.

Is the online geo-political game called NationStates by any chance? I quit roleplaying in there because nobody cared for real civilization role play, and prefer to do mindless wars instead. Or #*&$ measuring contests, if you will.

Back on topic, I do have one concern. Supposing this game catches on and gets more players posting, we might see the hated spammers and foum trolls show up. We're fortunate so far because we are a small community here on the forums, thanks to the small user-base that actually use the forums.

On a side note, one thing on any forum I hate is most internet slang (lulz, srsly, roflcopter, etc.) and l33t-speak. The only exceptions to interet slang include newbies (and deriatives), and intelligent slang, not punk teen slang. Those who use punk internet slang and / or l33t-speak must be punished as painfully as possible.
