better the planet more type of protection you want. If 1 point turns into 40 then you might want to give up a bit for defense.

i suppose you could slap some traps on it and then use a Planet Vortex Deflector to stop people using the engineered virus so you can maximize production. though that depends on how many people have scanned it.

i did mention that no one else has scanned it :P thats why its such a dificult choice. i can get 600 cloak from size 2. 800 with another 6, but that would mean no attack or population :x

attack on a planet is unimportant when it comes to invading. Defense is what affects the chance of the enemies success, attack just hurts them and since they can repair via nano-drones or ship repair options, they can continue their onslaught on it. The higher your defense on the planet Vs their attack, the more likely they'll fail the invasion. Cloak is less desirable as well, Even a decently cloaked planet can be found via a Critical Hack, hence rendering all that cloak useless. Since Scan modules outclass cloak modules, someone with 5 of the top tier scanners( + 960 Scan X 5) WILL find it, though since they take up 96 space EACH, its unlikely someone will have 5 equipped

the best cloak structure you can buy for planets is the Inverse-Flux Satellites which give +800 cloak but take up 7 space, so already even a ship with one of the top tier scanners has a fairly good chance of finding it.

if you Flux probe regularly when some one has scanned it, you shouldn't have problems keeping it hidden.

invasion chances are summed up by the planets attack and defence combined, so attack and defence are both usefull.

interesting, i wasn't aware that planetary attack factored into a successful invasion attempt.

thanks for that Boomsly, that's something else i have learned today :)

If it is VM, then you can probably sacrifice 10 space by putting your 5 best defense structures on it...that would be alright...E.g. Planetary Shields- 5*750= 3750+ legion bonus...thats pretty good

wrong planet attack counts the same during invasions as defense but also does damage to the attackor so he has to pay for repairs.

I believe it counts for less actually. Stack defense.

as per commonwealth's data in this thread http://galaxylegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=77576#p77576...
and my calculations further down...

invade atk 3978 against planet atk 2037 def 0, chance was 63% (62.5%-63.5%)

.....i wouldn't be surprised though if he remembered it wrong and it was actually 65%, which would put planet atk equal in weight to planet def during invasions... it's close enough it might as well be

____________________________________
Edit: ignore the invade atk above... a ship's invasion bonuses don't get buffed....

invade atk 3850 against planet atk 2037 def 0, chance was 63%..... comes out correct, weighting planet attack and planet defense equally....

next up: testing whether planet +% buffs affect planet invasion bonuses
