Mission Briefing
Standard Mission Length: 3 days
We were in the midst of completing the Ardyne Gateway Nexus, a joint project between the government and our allies here in the Ardyne system. Several large explosions almost destroyed the nexus, and it looks like a sabotage was to blame.
Rewards (If Successful): 4 Relic Badges (awarded to all ships with completed, non-failed tasks)
(RESTRICTIVE TASKS): One or more tasks in this mission require specific races or professions.
- Note: Phase 2 of this mission (Incursion into Gartith) will automatically begin.: "The Legion Mission The Ardyne Sabotage was successful. As a result, a follow-up mission has automatically started."
- Requires at least 10 pilots on each task in order for the legion mission to have a high chance of success.
Comm Log
Tasril: Hello, commander. I am Tasril, the Ardyne project lead. For the moment, however, my duties have been put on hold to head up the investigation.
Can you tell me more about the project?
Tasril: This is by far the largest gateway nexus we've ever constructed. It will provide your ships quick access to the edges of your borders.
What caused the explosion?
Tasril: Cloaked charges of some kind... remotely detonated. The charges were placed on the pylons, which are key structural areas.
Yes, and I can see the damage is extensive
Tasril: That is true, but we remain fortunate that the entire nexus did not collapse. Whoever placed the charges must have done so in a hurry.
So the nexus can be saved?
Tasril: If we get started immediately.
My colleague, Trovar, might be able to trace the source of the charges. Trovar?
Trovar: I'm sorry commander, but that is not possible. The energy output from these kinds of weapons greatly damages the quantum overlay. I would need a pure, un-detonated charge for any sort of accurate trace..
Hmm... Are there any charge fragments that remained in-tact?
Tasril: No. Well, nothing larger than a bacterium. We're still in the process of collecting the shards. Once enough of the pieces are re-assembled, it should give us a better idea of what was used. We're waiting on nano-assemblers to come online.
Any thoughts as to who might be against the construction of the gateway?
Tasril: Well, any of your enemies would certainly be against it. The borders are already strained. Having quicker access to the far reaches of these systems provides the gateway owner with a significant advantage.
But, this site is well secured. How does someone manage to sabotage the pylons?
Tasril: They would need to have knowledge of our security protocols, duty rosters, and shipment schedules... but i assure you, we've been very thorough with our security audits.
Is there a possibility that it might be someone on the inside?
Tasril: We're not ruling that out, but I have my doubts.
Explain.
Tasril: The saboteur clearly didn't understand the internal structural layout. The charges could have destroyed the entire nexus if they had been placed correctly. Someone on my team wouldn't have made that mistake.
Did anyone manage to capture the remote detonation signal?
Tasril: Yes, I'm glad you mentioned that. A partial unknown signal was detected shortly before the explosion.
What have you been able to analyze?
Tasril: The only usable data in the signal was a brief iota repeat sequence.
Is that significant?
Tasril: It is typically found in signals that are boosted due to specific atmospheric disturbances.
What types of disturbances?
Tasril: Those found in the thick, ionized clouds of toxic planets.
Interesting. So, the saboteur must have initiated the detonation sequence from the surface of one.
Tasril: Yes, and it would be close by. They would want to remain within scanning range of the nexus during the detonation.
It's a lead, but I doubt they stuck around.
Tasril: I agree, but a deep scan may reveal some clues... something they might have left behind.
We'll see what we can find.
Tasril: Report back when you learn more.
End Transmission
Tasks
Task 1: Repair Gateway Nexus Pylons
(RESTRICTIVE TASK)
Though the Gateway Nexus was not destroyed, the damage puts it in danger of collapse. Help repair the pylons and stabilize its structural integrity.
- Note: Must be a Builder, Fixer, Physicist, or Saboteur and at least Rank 80 to start this task.
Task Type Mission
Requires: 500 Energy, 16,000 exotic matter (20 rounds required)
Completion Requirement: 10,000 Energy, 320,000 exotic matter (Total)
Rewards: 400 xp per round and 1 Ardyne Gateway Link (on completion)
planetary artifact: once the link is installed (0 space) it provides this active ability: "Boosts Planetary Production by 2% for 3 days, + an additional 1% for each other Nexus link you control up to a max of 6% bonus"
(Scrap Value 12,500 - 50,000 credits)
Task 2: Install Nanite Re-Assemblers
Large numbers of tiny fragments need to be re-assembled to identify the specific type of weapon used by the saboteur. Nanite Re-Assemblers will greatly speed up this process.
- Note: Must be at least Rank 50 to start this task.
Task Type Mission
Requires: 400 Energy, 5 Nanite Swarm Capsules, 5,000 research points (25 rounds required)
Completion Requirement: 10,000 Energy, 125 Nanite Swarm Capsules, 125,000 research points (Total)
Rewards: 400 xp per round and 1 Nanite Re-Assembler (on completion)
ship module: size: 20, cloak: 40, hull: 200. If this device is already installed on your ship, this will instead upgrade its stats by 40% up to a max of 200%. unlocks an ability when fully upgrade. (Scrap value 8 - 17 ctp)
- Nanite Re-Assembler ability: Permanently increases your hull by 50. Costs 3000 Exotic Matter to use. cool down: 20 hours
Task 3: Investigate Nearby Toxic Plants
The detonation signal came from the surface of a nearby toxic planet. Scan for matches, and see if you can find anything left behind. The saboteur may still be in the area.
- Note: Must have at least 500 max energy to start this task.
Task Type Planet Scan Mission
Requires: Use a Toxic Deep-Scanner on a toxic planet scanned in the last 5 minutes. (500 energy per application) (20 rounds required)
Completion Requirement: 10,000 Energy (Total)
Rewards: ZERO xp per round and 1 Genome Modifier Tubes (on completion):
PLANET: size 1, artifact 2, mining 2, invasion defense 2000, 2 charges of +50% attack for one month. Costs 250 energy per charge. (Scrap value 1 - 2 ctp)
Models of Success
The following table shows the kind of participation/progress shown to get varying types of success chances. Please note, This is a work in progress and data is in process of being collected (see forum topic).
There may be instances where it seems like there is a big gap in the number of ships on a task. This is not necessarily a requirement, only the most current data available. There may also be different combinations of spread that bring these chances. Partial completions also may be factored in these cumulative requirements. Alternate combinations will be recorded and posted as well in an effort to record the minimum amount needed for varying chances.
- High Success theory:
task 1 full / equivalent completions : x task 2 full / equivalent completions : x task 3 full / equivalent completions : 13
Success Chance | Task 1 (20/20) | Task 1 Partial | Task 2 (25/25) | Task 2 Partial | Task 3 (20/20) | Task 3 Partial | Full Completions | Total Completions (equiv) | Info Provided By | Date Provided |
