A Trap for Ja'kell
Daily Mission Briefing
So... you are the (Your Race) commander we've been hearing so much about. I am Valthken of the Alarri Arms Consortium. There is much we need to discuss, and settle...
Mission Dialog:
Valtheken: Stealing sensitive schematics from our labs is a serious violation.
Sending a high-yields explosive deep into our territory is also a serious violation.
Valthken: That was an unfortunate accident. I'm sure that by now, you've confirmed that as fact.
This could have been avoided if you had contacted us directly.
Valthken: We did not realize that the pod had been detected. We wanted to avoid a potential incident. The pod left your space without hostility.
We had to be sure that it was not a planet attack.
Valthken: ...This does not justify the theft of our design.
Calm down. We have no intentions of creating a version of the weapon.
Valthken: Why should we believe that?
We have no use for it. The science behind your translocation is flawed. It will never work.
Valthken: It is incomplete, not flawed.
Believe what you will. Our business here is done. We won't bother you further.
Valthken: Wait... there is something else we need to discuss.
And what is that?
Valthken: Your release of the prisoner Ja'kell has created quite a problem for the Consortium.
I don't know what you are talking about.
Valthken: Of course you do. During your assault, Ja'kell accessed your systems and downloaded a wealth of information about your colonies. You freed one of the most notorious criminals in this sector.
And how do you know all this?
Valthken: Because he tried to sell your data to one of our contacts.
So, why tell us this? What do you want?
Valthken: It seems that we both have an interest in recapturing him, and I hear you have a tracer on board.
Why is he such a threat to you?
Valthken: Your secrets are not the only ones he plans to sell. The sooner he is found, the better.
The prisoners left in an unmarked Alarri ship, and we won't have any material to trace with.
Valthken: Besides that, tracing a moving target is a completely different process, and I doubt Ja'kell will leave that many crumbs.
We're going to need more than samples, Valthken.
Valthken: Alright, what do you suggest?
Trovar, could you track the ship from its drive trail?
Trovar: It's possible. Valthken... If I could get exact details about your drive systems, I could develop a new algorithm to trace the ship that Ja'kell left in.
Ja'kell can't be far.
Valthken: No. That would give you a method to track many of our other ships, as well. There must be another way.
That contact you mentioned earlier. Could you persuade them to purchase the data?
Valthken: Hmm. Yes, but they already declined the offer. Ja'kell would find a sudden change of mind... very suspicious.
Nonetheless, he will most certainly pass through many established trade areas in the near future.
Valthken: Only until he has sold what he can. We'll need a way to detect him at a moment's notice. Our ships cannot be everywhere at once.
Maybe we can. If we spend out and setup detectors between the outposts...
Trovar: ...I could establish a wide area signaling mesh.
What do you think, Valthken?
Valthken: If that is our best option, then lets do it. I'll have our fleet establish a safe transponder frequency.
Good. It is best if they continue on their standard travel paths. We don't want Ja'kell to suspect.
Valthken: I will command my ships as I wish. Ja'kell runs free because of your actions. I just want him back in custody.
End Transmission.
