The Lutuma Chronicles Chapter Seven (Epilogue)
With the Kassivar partially opened, the Oruas Eye begins sending a signal... from The Great Elders themselves. It becomes clear that both the Eye and the Great Elders wish to appoint a new steward...
Mission Briefing
Greetings. We have forseen your arrival. Before we allow you to finish unlocking the vault, there is much we need to discuss.
Your journey here was not an accident.
You are transmitting through the Eye... ? Who are you ?
You already know the answer to that, just as we already know why you are attempting to open the Kassivar.
So... you see... everything ?
Our visions come from a deep understanding of probabilistic physics - far beyond what most races understand... but no, we cannot see everything.
The Lutuma didn't mention that they could speak with the Great Elders through the Eye.
Communicating through the Eye is not typically... "permitted", so it has not been done for a very long time.
So why did you originally share the Eye and its ability with the Lutuma ?
We were not "permitted" to stay there, and are not "permitted" to return. We were "allowed" to leave something behind, and the Lutuma were chosen to harbor it.
Why did you have to leave ?
The reasons for leaving involve historical and political concepts that, given their level of complexity, would be completely foreign to you.
So the Eye...
... is our only remaining connection to this Galaxy. Through it, and through its stewards, we are able to see current events unfold here.
Through the visions ?
Yes, but the "visions" serve many purposes. The Oruas Eye produces them bidirectionally though a complex set of concurrent predictive calculations. A strong connection requires a "bond" with the stewards.
Why are you telling us all of this ?
You've become aware that the current situation with the Lutuma puts the Eye at risk, and we will not allow that to happen.
Yes...
We know that you intend to take the Eye for yourself, and then try to engineer a way to glimpse the visions. Even though the Lutuma you've contacted think you may help them destroy it, you will not.
There's no hiding that, I guess.
Though the Kassivar protects the Eye, it also darkens its sight. It cannot see very far beyond it. We do not wish it to remain in the vault for a long period of time, despite it sometimes being necessary.
So, you are saying that you want us to take the Eye ?
Yes, but that is up to you. If you choose to become the new steward, there are some responsibilities that must be honored.
Of course.
In a secure and well-defended location, you will build a structure known as the Eye Chamber. This is where the Eye will remain.
Not a problem.
Knowledge of the Eye must be kept to a minimum. Revealing its true purpose only elevates the risks to it.
Risks that we seem to be taking on exclusively.
As I said, it is your choice. Should the Eye determine that you are no longer fit to be stewards, we will use the visions to find a new one, just as we have done here.
That won't be necessary.
Once the Chamber is secure, we will complete the Key's unlock process, and the Eye is yours to take.
So, we will see any visions on our own ? We're sacrificing a lot to defend the Eye.
The bonding process will take time. None of your experiments will hasten this. We cannot know how long it will take. It could be hours... or generations.
But if you don't mind, can you at least tell us what you see... for us in the near future ?
As I said, we cannot see much detail from within the Kassivar... but our own calculations show a certain event...
What ?
A battle.
With the Lutuma ?
Yes. One that comes at great cost to you. So it is predicted.
Given the lengths the Lutuma went through to reclaim the Eye, I don't see how we can avoid conflict now, even if we wanted to.
Nor could we tell you how to prevent it. We are only revealing what we see.
But... obviously, the Eye will remain safe ?
Yes, but we have no predictive detail beyond that.
Any idea on what the Lutuma will do next ?
... We have said all that we are "allowed". Go. Proceed with your tasks.
We have so much more to ask you...
I know, but I'm afraid our conversation has to end.
End Transmission
