Revision as of 21:58, 17 December 2012
Missions are the primary method of gaining experience in the game, and thereby increasing your Rank.
To auto-rank off a mission, use the folowing formula: Energy required to autorank off a mission = (40R + 20)/([Exp ratio of mission] x 1.265)
Where R = current rank, (40R + 20) being the experience requirement of that rank. Thanks to JohnMcAuley for this great formula.
Requirements
Missions consume energy to complete. Some may also have another requirement, for example The Terra Project, which consumes a Terraforming Device artifact for every one round of the mission.
There are also prerequisites that you must meet in order to be eligible for a mission. The most common of these involves being of a certain minimum rank. Other common requirements include a minimum stat (attack for combat missions, scanning for search missions, etc), kills (for hunt & destroy missions), or even the ending of other, prerequisite missions.
Be careful, as some missions may also have hidden costs. These costs, known as Risks, involve a chance of negative occurrence. Common risks include ship damage/disablement or mission failure. Less common risks include permanent loss of crew.
Also, there are missions that are only available to specific Races.
Rewards
Completing a mission always earns you experience, and (usually) credits. Some less common rewards may include special materials, research points, or (rarely) artifacts.
Some missions also have a Chance to Get, which is a small chance that you will receive an extra reward, in addition to the normal rewards listed for the mission. These can be anything from extra credits to rare ingredients required for high-level items.
For further information on the rewards to be gained, see Mission Rewards
Mission Ending
Virtually all missions can be completed a limited number of times before the mission ends, or disappears from your list of missions. When this happens, you receive credit for one mission ended, which gets you closer to earning one of the sought-after Mission Tier Items.
If the mission had a follow-on mission, then ending the prerequisite also unlocks the follow-on, and adds it to your list of missions available.
Mission List
This section lists the missions alphabetically by name. The full list of non-seasonal missions also exists as a single page here.

Seasonal Missions
Completed Mission Summaries
(Amounts shown are the totals for finishing the missions.)
Notes on the "Completed Mission Summaries" Table
1 The minimum ranks stated here for mid-chain missions assume that you pursue a given chain from the moment it unlocks, and are based on the minimum rank you are likely to have achieved from the XP rewards of each previous mission in the chain. It is probable that you will approach most of these at a much later rank than shown here. See also Mission Chains.
Very rarely, a mid-chain mission may also have a hard-coded rank requirement (examples: The Colossal Project requires rank 50 even if The Terra Project is already complete; Border Patrol cannot be undertaken before reaching rank 10).
2 Missions marked with "S" are either stand-alone missions or the start of a chain, and their rank requirements are hard-coded into the game.
3 The final two Silthion missions do not follow directly from the third, they require an item dropped by the rare npc Silthion Hybrid Larva to initiate the first of these two missions; however this npc does not spawn unless the 3rd (repeatable) Silthion mission is active.
Mission Chains
Mission Chains consist of two or more missions that lead from one to the next, in a chain. They come in two categories, Non-Race Chains and Race Unlocking Chains.
The race-unlocking chains that were previously described at the bottom of this page have been moved to the Mission Chains page for the sake of clarity and to stop this page becoming unwieldy. The headings below link directly to each chain.
