Hints and Tips
Everyone needs a little help sometime. Below are some GOOD ideas on what to do to improve your game-play.
For right now all the hints and tips are just bullets one after another... later on i will try to seperate them into topics and sections. Such as Planetary building hints, general hints, newbie hints etc...
- Rule #1: get on the Galaxy Legion Forums and thank Dan for such a great game. He works hard on it and constantly tries to get back with everyone that has a question ASAP. Without Him this wiki wouldn't be here because there would be NO GAME!!!!
- Don't forget to claim your Daily Reward on the news tab.
- Let me just start out by saying.. at the game start I thought very little of mining planets because let's face it... things are cheap when your first starting and you can get by with only having a few... so I focused mainly on research with some artifact... Now that i'm very high level I just want to say the level 8 production buildings (16 size +8 production) cost 20 kurenite and 50 mil to build... so far i've upgraded 7 planets (maximizing production) with them and i've put 3 on each planet... so let's do math... 7 planets X 3 buildings = 21 needed buildings... so the cost to build EACH building is a little over 80 million each.. so more math... 80 million X 21 = 1.68+ BILLION dollars spent on only 7 planets with about 40 more to go... so Just a MAJOR hint.. research is SO inticing game start (and needed) but focus a little more on Mining then you think you should because even though for awhile you will have ALOT of money and not much to spend it on.. once you catch up in research you will be broke FAST if you always try to maximize production with new research earned. Plus remember all those things you build for your ship start to cost ALOT to build and your upkeep goes WAY up too. ;)
- Note from last Hint... ALWAYS try to use the latest research and maximize plant production. It will be for the best in both the long run and the short run...
- When you get a Terraformer, try to only Terraform 1 Planet until it's maxed at 15X Mega (Dan changed the cap on terraforming to 15x Mega, but the max for planets is still 48x. This change means it is impossible to make a 48x Mega by way of terraformers) production... this is the cheapest and fastest way to boost production when upgrading buildings, changing production needs, or adding that chassis that will help more so on a +1200% production bonus instead of a + 50% Bonus.
- When upgrading Planet Production Buildings ALWAYS do your MOST abundant Planets first so you can immediately see better productions, and you can reap the results immediatly to help with the rest of your gameplay. Improve less abundant planets over time as you gain the resources to do so, but always focus on your best planets first.
- As a response to the last two tips, while having a maximized planet seems really nice, spreading out upgrades may decrease your risk of losing a key planet. Some people like to concentrate upgrades, but the planet size determines how much a resource boost helps your bottom line (it's a multiplication), and any planet with a high base production will benefit a similar amount from a 1 level increase in resources of that type.
- For those that want a basic setup for how many of each type of production planets you should have, here is my general guideline to how many plants of production of each type you should aim for, by the rank listed, for "better" game play.
Keep in mind these are all average or bigger size planets with at least Very Abundant resource type.. always go for the biggest planet with MOST bonus to abundance:
Beginner Game Play (Below rank 40):
11 planets total at rank 40
4 Mining Planets
1 Artifact Planets
6 Research Planets
Mid-rank game play (Between rank 40-120):
31 planets total at 120
9 Mining Planets
4 Artifact Planets
18 Research Planets
Late Game Play (Rank 120+):
31+ planets
30% of Planets Mining
15% of Planets Artifact
50% of Planets Research
5% of planets (your Choice Depending on Situation)
Let me explain this Setup for late game.
Research is VERY important (duh reason for so many)
Artifact planets (imo) should only be built on ICY and TERRA
Planets due to they both usually have artifact abundance as their best stat.
The 5% i give as free will to use because (if you change to situation like me) you need room to adjust. this 5% (IMO) should be used on your Exotic Planets. Why? because they have awesome stats on EVERY production. So when your Upgrading production Buildings and need more money fast then make these 2 AWESOME MILKERS into mining planets... When your researching and not in need of money and your not upgrading anything then change to artifact or research to help those along while you can.... You will reap the most results on these planets in production and it's ALOT cheaper and easier to drastically change your production from on area to another by just changing buildings on 1 or 2 planets instead of 10 planets.
I know this works because I have 2 exotics i do this with and can, by choice, change my production around very fast for whatever is needed.
- Think ahead and listen to higher level players.. You might think your doing great but Higher level game and starter/mid level game is quite a bit different... Listening to the elders of rank might just give you that hint or boost that you need.
- First starting out every time you level you get 5 RANK points to spend in one of multiple categories. At starting stage putting some into all of them seems like a good idea. But i can personally say from the higher level people that 99.99% of them wish they put more into decks. I recommend this.. alot of people Put 4 points into decks and 1 into cargo EVERY rank up or level and don't worry to much about the rest. Reasons for this being.. Decks increase the amount of space to put items on your Ship.. and your items increase whatever stats you want just by building them... in other words.. decks let you switch your stats around whenever you want... while investing in the OTHER rank point options.. gives you less space with being less able to vary your stats because those points are permanently there.
- Before leveling or (ranking up) always uninstall your Relays and install all your Reactors or Cores so when you do level you will have more energy to use towards whatever you want.
- Specialize your Planets to one type of Production. Most Planets do NOT have the same Production Bonus's to mining/artifact/research. So find what is best on your planet and ONLY build production structures for that. (Bonus's to this is easier to find specific production planets to upgrade structures, you gain more production from specializing, and it allows you to plan ahead).
- You may spend your research at ANY time... you do not need to save up ALL that 6000 research points before you can research the 6000 points... you can slowly over time research them... so if you have 500 research points go ahead and put them into that 6000 point project... it will adjust to 5500 points still needed. This is a good idea because you have a limited amount of research storage space in which you can hold research.
- Planets you colonize are permanent unless you want to spend 5 GP (real money points) to abandon it or HOPE someone randomly invades that planet you really don't want (don't hold your breath). I recommend to only colonize average or bigger planets with at least "Extremely Abundant", or +75%, resources on the production you want (mining/artifact/research).
- Don't be in a hurry to spend your Artifact Points. The more artifact points you save the better change you have at getting better items. To see what you can get look at the Artifacts page. Here are basic save points recommened for your level or rank.
lvls 1-20 -- 2500
lvls 21-50 -- 4700
lvls 50-100 -- 6000 or more
- Just because at first a branch of a research tree looks kinda crappy, don't think as you move through it that the rest are worthless too. I believe the single most important tree is the Advanced Power Systems. This tree will boost your energy levels and recharge rates (Energy) tremendously. This is the tree to level faster and pass the newbies that are just attacking each other.
- Scanning for planets - those darn scanners are freaking expensive - I only scan for planets when I research the mark 3 version of the scanner and stock my ship full of them. Then I go on a planet scanning spree. I use every bit of energy i can, let it build up and use it again, until my scanning success is down to the 15%-20% range. Then I sell all the scanners off again. Save your scanning booster artifacts for when your scanning success gets low. This takes about 24 hours total. Then I sell off the scanners again because the upkeep on those puppies are HIGH.
- Planet is useless to you if you stack 30 attack and defensive items on it and only 1 resource gatherer. I chuckle when i see a planet with a research output of 2.5. Find a good mixture, and don't underestimate the value of cloakers on planets.
- If you have a premium planet, there is an option to GUARD IT with your ship. Another person will have to disable you before they can attack the planet. Also any cloaking you have on ship will also cloak the planet. This will help keep lower levels from taking your best planet.
- When you first start - FOCUS ON RESEARCH. Money will come from missions, and artifacts are not that important in beginning (unless you want to pvp then filter a bit into artifacts. (you can always refocus your resource gathering on planets later by demolishing old and building new buildings)
- If you hack/raid/invade/disable someone- expect retaliation from them and their friends. Don't cry when they do.
- Don't overlook the Planetary Construction Research Tree. It allows you to build better buildings with resource to space ratios. I rebuild all my buildings every other upgrade. So I will build +1, +3, +5 buildings. Its too expensive and not enough (to me) upgrade to do it every level.
- STOP TAKING CRAPPY PLANETS!!! If its small/tiny and sparse all across the boards, its not worth it.
- However, in the endgame now Taltherian can boost a crappy planet to a nice artifact planet, HOWEVER it must be a decent size to benefit the most from Urbanize ability. If you get massive gas planets that are OK in the beginning, you can still do this without having to drop them. Small/tiny planets, however, will never be that good.
- For the first few ranks (1-20 at least) spend at least 3 of every 5 Rank Points on DECKS. Divide the remaining 2 between scientists, engineers, or cargo space. You will NOT regret this!
- Hack people early in the morning ~7:00am (or 6 if you're up) because they are most likely still asleep with 6+ hours of unspent research in their ship.
- Before using an energy cube, max out reactors (max energy modules) on your ship. Uninstall relays.
- Before using a neural interface artifact, beef up your max energy (see above) and use an energy cube or two to do as many missions as possible. Using Neural's and RSL implant with a full energy bar is helpful.
