You're in a viciul cercle.

You have beam disable some time in the begining for bad luck.
Now your stats goes down.
More you stats goes down, more ppl take you as a easy kill.
More ppl take you as a easy kill, more disable for you

and it's loop.

Cloak your ship, and rise your own kill to become "Balanced" and the disable chain will stop.

Well actually just cloak enough and that should stop most of it. Keep traps up as much as possible to irritate people.

He has over 1000+ kills. I'm guessing most of his disables are from retaliation as opposed to people thinking he is an easy kill.

Well, the instance where I did pvp is to retake a planet that got cluster missiled to death (heh, their waste), after 30-40 fuses and 15 shield restores (I saved up since I don't pvp much) I finally knocked him out, he ran out of traps I think lol. So, I will adjust my comment, pvp is useful when it involves a planet ;)

the way i figure, if i can get my kill/death ratio to 10:1 then i dont care how many times i get disabled. and im very close to achieving it.

Also another thing is PVP is about to get a whole lot better with Legion Bases.... PVP picks up the slack adds variety to a slow grind at times. If your wanting a game without PVP go somewhere else or buy an actual space game that is played on your computer and doesn't involve playing online with the social interaction of other people. I would say a Flight Simulator just to be on the safe side so you whiners don't accidentally get the chance to attack someone.

Humans love competition in general to be better or be better then someone else. By playing to that aspect people who lose will in return want to become better so next time they don't lose etc etc.

i never cloak my ship, apart from npc modules have arond 300 cloak just for hacking purposes, i cover my terrible death count with high amounts of kills

pvp is a very important part of the game if it was taken out of the game what would happen to planet invading and other such things ... why would you even need a legion
.... if there was not pvp i would not even play this game ... taking pvp out would take this game from the most awesome game to close to worthless for my enjoyment... and i am not a huge pvp player with only 689 kills 954 raids and 363 hacks vs my over 5k npc kills but it is a huge part of the game without it there would be no need to defend planets or have a legion to back you up in anyway (this is assuming that if pvp was removed all aspects of it would be removed as well such as planet theft)

also hacking is many peoples way of staying ahead of the curve on research .. or to make up for research they are not getting on planets due to more art production ...
this also works the other way around for raiders who use art points stolen to keep up where they may have built more research buildings and less art production buildings

.. i know i am thread jacking and this was not the original focus of the thread how ever i also agree totally with the creator of this thread in his views of player rank and how it comes into play when doing pvp ... if i can kill you and you are smaller than me i will do so ... if i am killed by a bigger ranking player... maybe alerted and beat on by his whole legion .... oh well big deal

Actually I think we have wavered far off of the OP's original post at this point.

There are usually 2 sides to an issue and while the OP said his fight escalated to an over a week long deal he started it. I agree getting worked up over a simple badge run on someone is kinda dumb at this point in the game. But here's what's worse. I would imagine that the target of the OP's badge run retaliated or probably alerted him and the fight ensued.

Which resulted in a week of wasting time and energy dealing with retaliations.

Well it takes two to play that game. If you allow it to consume you then your just as guilty as the guy that alerted you for a stupid badge hunt. And let's face it most of the badge hunters out there are intentionally taking down lower ranked players for those badges. It's faster and easier to do. Sorry guys I know it is because of the number of people doing it. I see it in my legion every single day. Some guy rank 120 or so hits a guy sub 100's for a badge. It's just the way of the game. Deal with it.

The way to counter it is to use cloak to your advantage. High cloak modules and high hull (MAXED HULL) with a decent attack and defense will usually keep you from being bothered with.

@ OP Don't get mad because you got retaliated against unless it was an alert for a badge run. You continued the fight at that point so you get the blame as well. Your victim does get blame as well so you don't get to eat that crow all on your own. :twisted:

I tell my people if the keep getting attacked to up their cloak and max it out as they go and grow. No one alerts anymore for a simple badge farm. They are free to retaliate and if teh fight then ensues then they may alert. That is Talon Company tradition.

Haha!! You probably noticed that people who always complaining about this game... probably quit or soon no longer be playing. lol!!! It's a cycle in everything they do, so I wouldn't even bother with whinners ;)

+1 whiners are always whiners, will always be whiners, and will never ever, EVER, be productive members of any community. They will always quit when life does not give them a daily win.

The only formula for success:

1. Learn
2. Train
3. Repeat

notice it does not include, whining, crying or giving up.

as to the post

I can kill people 3x my lvl
I can be killed by someone 1/3rd of my lvl
This to me is a great aspect to the game, as in r/l there is no safety.
Safety is an illusion offered by many but held by no one.
You can only ever be more safe than you were, you can never be 100% safe.

That player is just stupid.. I would rather fight enemies hundreds of ranks over my own rank cuz there is bigger disable experience, bigger raid reward, bigger hack RP while that enemy will find me less rewarding by doing the same against me..

Personally, I'm kinda new to this game, despite being Rank 62, or thereabouts, and I was getting farmed pretty good by all the PvP'ers out there. I'm a Mission Specialist, not an Attack specialist. Instead of whining about the whoopin's I was taking, or calling in the BIG GUNS (alerting my Legion PvPers), I took it as a challenge :

How do I keep all these bullies from disabling me 3 times a day ?

I learned a little something about Dominion Cannons (OMG !), talked to a few more experienced PvPers to get some strategy tips, and started my own campaign of "Wrack and Ruin". Got my own (first) Dominion Cannon the other day, and I'm on my way...

Now, even though I don't enjoy PvP, I do it, so I will get stronger, and make people think twice before tackling me. I split my time between PvP and Missions, and I got a good mix going...

I will attack anyone, with no proviso, if I think I can win. The only rule I follow, is : Send a Comm message with something like "Sorry, badges only". I have read the comments/posts about this, but I think: 1) It shows a little respect, and 2) It will prevent me from attacking someone multiple times, if I forget I attacked that person already, 'cause I always check all the 'tabs' before I attack anyone.

Back to the OP: I don't think Rank matters. If someone is 10+Ranks over me, but he's rated "Laughable", or thereabouts, and I think I can take him, I go for it. And not the attacking per se, but the challenge of making my ship more formidable, has made the game more enjoyable for me...so PvP in this game, I think is vital, it makes it more enjoyable. If you take it as a challenge, and overcome it, you've accomplished a personal goal, and that's like stroking your own ego...

Sorry but untrue. The best 4 cloak modules will NOT keep you off the BT at decent rank. It will only ensure you are only seen by the very best ships. You will still be hit.. all part of the game.

Agreed, theres alot more scan artis, modules etc out there, you'll never have enough cloak.

Besides I have low cloak, not a CC player, all my deck I have to work and wait for so getting around to fitting everything will take time. But i've never had high cloak and yet the same time im very rarely hit on the BT, once a week, maybe twice.
