I've been playing this game for over four years, and one thing that has remained constant is that there has *never* been a sale, discount, or promotion of any kind for buying GP. And there is almost zero way to get them for free from the game itself - maybe 1:100 daily rewards will be a measly 5 GP - enough to buy nothing.

While I certainly don't want any sort of Mafia Wars-esque constant screaming to buy, nearly every Free-to-Play game I can think of has some sort of promotion at some point. Game of Thrones: Ascent will give you an in-game item this week if you spend 20 bucks.

GL will give you squat. If the whole goal of this training system it to lure in new players, why not also make GP more accessible to them? '50% off your first purchase' or the like. Right now GP are a hard barrier - either you pay to get them, or you don't. And if you don't pay, you don't have *any.* This seems foolish to me - if a player gets a trickle of GP and has an item he wants to save for, he might be willing to buy GP to make up the difference.

For example, a Quasi is basically $5. Many players might not want to spend the $15+ needed to buy an RT+2Quasi combo (and you'd be smartest to spend $20). So Dan gets nothing. But let's say you get a GP per day that you play, with every single Daily Reward. Saving for a that RT/Quasi combo will take you 164 days, which will be onerous for most people. But my point is, if you'd already built up 74 GP, now to get the 90 you need, you're only spending $10. Maybe that difference is enough to make you spend. So instead of nothing, Dan now gets $10. Or, there's a one-time discount on where you can get 200 GP for $10. So Dan gets $10, as opposed to nothing.

My point is, making GP attainable without money makes it less onerous to attain them *with* money. And it also makes them normal. GP aren't just the thing that Credit Card Warriors have - they just have more than you do. Making people comfortable with having them will make people comfortable with *spending them,* which will make people comfortable with buying them. Keeping GP totally behind a paywall trains people 'These aren't for me. I don't use those.' Which is about the worst message ever for a GP-Selling business to be sending!

With the exception of afew base items and 2 ship items and the seasonal goodies, you can get everything you can buy with GP through normal game play. No reason to offer a discount GP speed the game up not much else.

I agree with the OP.

Was considering about buying GP at some point, but the hard part is 'seasonal is not seasonal', except limited time items.
I understand that Dan need cashflow, but like Doc said, -1 GP to buy an item can trigger buying GP, and maybe the 550GP package, just because it is the best deal...

How about putting Easter Eggs, like Dan's ships, in both NPC and players, planets, or something like those, that's rare enough to stay balanced, but common enough that will fuel up activities in the game ? Dan's ship, when hacked grants 1-5 GP, while raided grants 2-10 GP. Dan's NPC, when killed grants 1-2 GP. Dan's planet, when found grants 3-5 GP.

RT's and storage can't be attained without GP, Quasi's are so rare they may as well not exist.

i spend a fair bit of GP myself, so new items are not normally an issue for me, but I definitely agree with you, making them easier to attain would definitely perk peoples interest in the game. There are many players who are under the age of 18, and so access to a credit card/debit card/regular cash flow may prove difficult. I think its a great idea!!! :D

+!2(why 12? cos its more than +1 and im on crack so deal with it) 8-)

Here your wrong their is a THRIVING market its quite easy to buy storage with ctp, You can also steal storage from other players, While RT's themselves can not be bought IG the effects they grant do/can happen naturaly they are a speed up nothing more.

RT effects happen naturally so rarely that it basically doesn't matter. In multiple years of playing, I think I've had 1, maybe 2 analyzable effects appear on my own planets. And it's totally random which ones they affect. Just like Quasis, the only reasonable way to get an RT effect is to buy an RT.

the difference between us and the mainstream games is that they have alot more players who spend on in game currency. also they probably have multiple games ie. the ville series. this means they get alot more money and can afford to have sales. i dont know how dependent Dan is for money through this game, but if he depends on it alot he cant afford to have sales.

On another note a while back a suggested a loyalty program where for every X amount of gp bought you get a reward or possibly a point system. i think this would work best because you would have to be buying a good amount of gp and not just getting it during the sales.

Sales generally translate to overall increased revenue.
Those other games dont put sales on because they want to give stuff away cheaper. They are getting people to spend more money.

I agree. Unless your really lucky, or your a Governer and semi lucky over a long period of time, your not going to get an RT effect on any planet worth having. Let alone one at all. I have yet to have one. I've stolen a few but that's the only way I've been able to obtain planets with RT effects.

theire is the small question of size.....
always so nice to get a planet effect a a tiny toxic......

if you want to turn that into a desent x20+ artifact planet, it cost more GP's for QSE's then buing a RT would
(incase you are wondering, I stole it with a analyze effect on it, hoping it would be rings - might have used it for something if I had gotten that result)

the only reason you have that marked is becourse some players are willing to spendt real $ on GP's and sell the artifacts for CTP's, EM, energy and other ingame items they need
so no you are actualy both right - RT's and storage can't be attained without GP
it just a question of who are actualy paying for those GP's

For me anyway, the biggest things I wish I could get without spending are the seasonal allies, but also the e recharge mods, Quasis and RTs can be bought from other players, (except for the mission dyson/rifts). +1 to the concept and the special ship Idea.

Even if GP itself isn't sold for less, some sort of sale on items. 25% less GP per item to purchase, or change it up weekly, a different item of the week, etc.

For "Black Friday", Paypal had a sale on Facebook gift cards, 25% off.
$50.00 were on sale for $37.50.

Of course I already used my Paypal funds for other online sales, so I missed out on a rift for only $37.50.

I think it is time, give the freeplayers some slack, GP is much too powerful to be so exclusive

For what it is worth, I think Dan would be making a bad mistake to "loosen the GP Pursestrings." We already get five galaxy points for free every so often; I know I've gotten that for a daily reward at least once every two months. That already has the effect you say you're looking for, of introducing newbies to the wonders of GP.

"Quantitative easing" of GP, by providing a GP a day, would simply end up forcing Dan to raise the amount of GP needed to purchase items to make the same money he makes now. It would also dilute the value of any GP already purchased, a concern for anyone who has purchased one of the larger point packs and not yet used it.

Sales on items would also, I think, be a mistake. Galaxy Legion isn't subscription-based. Item sales are Dan's only revenue, and the demand for items within the game is finite. Under those circumstances, a cut-price sale represents a loss of income rather than a gain; with as comparatively small a player-base as we have, it's unlikely that enough new people would be encouraged to buy GP to buy the items on sale to make up for the loss.

You're missing my point though. It's not about how much stuff costs, it's about how willing people are to spend. There's a lot of folks who simply don't spend at all. If a sale can encourage those people to buy, Dan will make more money. And remember, it's not like GP cost anything to produce.

And 5GP every couple months is simply too low. The whole point of free GP is to make having them a normal thing. Habituate having them and you habituate spending them. That makes buying them not as big a deal. And if there's a sale on, even better.

Like I said, I don't think the game should be a Zynga-style endless stream of sales, loyalty programs, and gimmicks. But having *nothing* is baffling, and bad business. Sales *work* -there wouldn't be so many places having them if they didn't. And when your product costs you nothing to produce, you'd be insane not to take advantage.
