It doesn't matter what you do with the moon, the choice would be yours, it still removes it from the planet database. Again the values have to be weighted so that you don't get super over powered resources. But if everyone has access to the same stuff then it's fair in that sense. It would however throw off the balance of the game if all of a sudden everyone doubles their research amount.

thats why i had proposed that the moons have a -50% production value, and the resources not stack, but be individual to each moon. an extremely rich moon would only provide a 75% production value after the moon marker had been applied.

*moons can only be unoccupied small or smaller planets *captured planets that are small or smaller require an artifact to 'bring them into orbit' *moons have the standard planet size and resource values *moons have an automatic -50% production bonus (because their 'smaller') *moons can be destroyed and would amount to a 'ring' around the planet. *rings would provide a +1 to each resource value of the primary planet *rings can be removed with an artifact or reassembled into a barren moon with a random resource value, but the cap would be at 'very rich' +1

I like this whole idea about the moons and all but I want to know. Can you change the type of the moon? From barren or what ever also would you be able to make it bigger or up the production of the moon as well? If so what would happen if a moon got bigger than the planet? Would it just take over as the planet or would there be a stopper from allowing that to happen? Also if someone can see a world you own would they be able to see the moons as well? So when they take the world would the get the moons? If so I think that they should have to take out each moon first as a separate part of the invasion. Then once they take all the moons down they can try for the world. Make it harder to take a world and not just a take the pop down and invade really fast thing. It would involve more time and effort to take a larger world. I love the ring idea and the limits on the moons to the planet size.

Vekno wrote: well, i thought that the whole point of the moon post is to get rid of the small/smaller planets clogging our scan database. but i like the cumulative attack/defence/cloak thing. but for adding the cumulative of the planet/moon, that could get kinda unfair, considering ive found several extremely rich tiny planets. and if you have a very sparse barren in orbit then it would be subtracted from the planet total. i would rather keep resource values seperate, so i could have a crap barren planet in orbit and load it up with cloaking buildings, and an extremely rich desert tiny planet that i could load up and harvest. this way the crap planets dont screw you over. The idea was that the production would stack, not the resource. so a tiny toxic moon with average mining will still produce 4 minerals with 2 phase cutters when peaked.

I think an artifact to make the crappy planets "salvagable" for resources would be even better.. so you colonise, use this artifact.. and then you get some "rock dust" or whatever kinda planet it is.. so "barren dust" etc. Of course this is just a name I'm giving it for now.
You use the according dust on the same type of planet you get XYZ bonuses (+1 to resources for a limited time perhaps since it is technically dust? Or.. +1 up to a cap before it is for a limited time?).
Would be nice to just harvest the galaxy and get rid of all the rubble that clutters it up..

These are very cool ideas, and would make having all these garbage planets worth keeping around a bit. For the artifact that brings it in I agree a size between 3 and 5 would be appropriate for it. The limit on how many moons I feel should be kept to a maximum of 3. The production level of the moon should be kept separate from the planets in terms of it over all bonus, but I think attack defense and cloak should be shared for the planetary system. I see the moons more as a great way to add these levels to your planet more than being able to use them to boost resources, I would not even mind if you couldn't get resources from it as a moon but could only use it for the attack, defense and cloak levels. There would have to be a fairly tough mission to get the artifact, but make it able to repeat as much as you want. I would say it would be a good use of exotic matter that we tend to get too much of. Like the mission takes 100 energy, 25 exotic matter per click and you have to do it 20 times to get the moon drawing artifact (ok the costs might be too low but its a starting point). I really like where this idea is going and would really enjoy having it in the future of the game.

i think its a good idea i was only able to get crappy planets. i found a planet called macbericus but it was owned by some bozo named evadeluwat i invaded it but he was 50 ranks higher and easily disabled me i was only able to do 50 dmg each repair with 120 att and 5 def that was one of the reasons i quit the game it was pretty boring when u couldnt even get ur basic needs he took it back it was the only good planet i had on da list

There's plenty more fish in the sea.. Besides, this Evade guy.. I'd love to make him taste some nice sexy guns.

I see alot of talk about gravity issues ....... I think you would have to build a Planetary tractor beam on your X? planet attach a "crappy" planet as a moon then only defense and attack structures could be built on the moon boosting defense on your Prized planet. limit one maybe two per planet,

yes I was also thinking of a Dyson grinding machine. That's how a Dyson needs to be made, by disassembling other planets for resources. I figured this could either go specifically to building your own Dyson, or just giving you resources. But I don't know if its a big deal for Dan to be constantly introducing new planets into the game.
Really Dysons should be made, not found but there of course could be abandoned ones.

I still say planetary dust is a smarter idea .. since it is easier to implement and is not really possible to exploit very well. For taking a crappy planet out of your scans and increasing your scanning ability you are rewarded with a couple days extra of resource production and the possibility of finding a new and awesome planet Also making dysons? Errr... no... Dysons should be found.

Well like I said, thats also a plausible use for the planet grinder, it doesn't necessarily have to go to making something. The point about making Dysons was in regards to realism. Realistically you would have to make your own Dyson, not find them laying about. It would be like finding a mansion that was spotless and clean and no one cared if you moved in and claimed ownership. But yes there could conceivably be some circumstances where you may find a Dyson abandoned or empty, however improbable.

While I think moons would be cool, I do think demolishing a planet would be much easier. I suggested that months ago and I don't believe Dan had much interest in the idea.

I just avoided the planet smashing idea because I'm not sure how Dan has the system set up, or how planets are added to the database. If thousands of planets start dropping off it may cause problems. I'm sure a system of new planets could be added, but maybe he just doesn't want to do that. If it's something easily addressed then sure, I think it would be a great option to add to the game.

Of course when i think about it, this black hole of death for planets could be an issue when it came to warfare as legions could lose planets in a matter of minutes. You should need to own a planet for a minimum of 5 days before you can scrap it... would make it fair and give the legion a fighting chance at taking the planet back.
The grinding process should take time as well.

mmm with that right there, it should be limited which planets can be ground up. We only bought the medium sized grinder from Walmart so it can only handle small or less sized planets.

I think it would be fair game if we want to take GL down a more military route but planets you pay for, i reckon, should be unfluxable.. and in the case of this grinding thing, ungrindable. The fact you spend cash on it to get it really should mean you get the planet for life in my opinion but oh well, i guess in a game like GL it is a risk to take.
