While you say that artifact bases aren't your thing, Ancient Untouchables are masters of Slow/Freeze ranking. You'd be in an entire legion of amazing ships, able to fight way over our rank. The base IS artifact, but I guarentee you that it'll be better for you if you have an artifact base.

Research levels are highly overrated, as is research production. If your slow/freeze ranking, your tech will keep up even with a mediocre RP production. My research production is 1.7k at rank 179, which is low, but my tech is still ahead. The extra artifacts you'd get from our level 5 base will be what makes you strong - not a research base.

Of course, I'd like a look at your ship before you request, which you should, because, well. We can't be having riff-raff.

Patience is a virtue. I'm doing +12s at rank 179 with less research/hour than you. I reiterate, whilst freeze/slow ranking if your research is high it will just make itself redundant.

It's your call, end of day, but I do not think an RP base a good idea.

Well you certainly have great production for your level. However, as Strm avenger said, research will only take you so far. In the end, at a higher level, you will be begging for more artifacts

If you have a nice supply of artifacts from the beginning, you won't have a problem for when you go into high level bases, NPCs, or even some harder PvP players...

We always have a spot for you at WDE Current each member gets 47-52k arti/day (every day is even split). We have a strong base that has a very, very low chance of getting disabled (we have 200k shields, 200k hull, 25k atk, 45k def). Also, We have a strong community of players that will help you with your every need Generally there are about 10+ planet shares per day, about 15+ NPCs/day, we try for 3 bases per day (2 3's, 1 5 which we coordinate an attack on with other legions)...

lol For my Research it's 4788 / hour with 18k Extra Research Capacity (6 Q-Pedd Station on my R. Planets the rest are Archives Tower). Still need work on my Artifacts an hour which is 2.3k, avg. for my rank I think.
There's a lot of great Research Legions out there, hope you find a suiting Legion that'll build your ship to your expectation.

Well, The Destroyers holds quite a good output of research. I think you would enjoy the friendly atmosphere as well. They have been allies to my legion for a long time and I am currently helping them get fully active again. They have about 20k research a day so far and that is with 50% defender bonus. These guys NPC a good amount and we are starting to get a few really great members. I think it would be great if you joined as well to help us. We currently hold 30 members but are planning on growing quite a bit in the near future.
