As for research, get the first tier of Shields so you can build Obviation Barriers on planets - much, much better defense. Finish +12's to maximize your production.

And definitely agreed, forget adding more research for a good while - get mining and ARTIFACTS, FOR THE LOVE OF- ahem. You'll want the mining so you can afford your +12's - put them on everything, they help with production a lot.

Ok so once I finish this defense tier I'll get my 12s, meanwhile I'll finish the mylari chain and switch to it so I can get out of builder. Sound good?

No. Mylarai is "rubbish" as a British feline I know would say. You're better off switching to Drannik (if you have it unlocked) or Konqul. Farm NPCs for Toxic Purifiers. You can boost a VL Toxic to 15x/16x way faster than doing it with Mylarai. You'll also get lots of other goodies that at your level are going to scrap for beaucoup CTP. Cash it in for ku to help cover expenses. Stay with builder until you can afford to switch. Colonize planets like this: 2 artifact, 1 mining until they catch up to your research output. Then colonize 2 artifact, 1 mining, 1 research. Finish the step of Trans-Temp you're currently working on. Research 1st stage Obviation fields. Research +12's the whole way through (mining-research-artifact). DO NOT UPGRADE +10's to +12's yet. Only build +12's on NEW planets. Once you get stabilized, THEN upgrade your +10's.

Also, try putting your rank points into crew. When your Artifact hits around 4500, start using just ship-bots for space.

Ok so production aside, what else should I work on in terms of my research? +12s are next and I already have obviation barriers for my planets.

I would have to say syncopated hulls. All the way through.

+12's, then Exergonic Convertors. May as well have them. Then Syncopate's.
