Hey, I am not sure why or how, but a legion mate of mine who is rank 28 with 500 scan managed to scan a planet with the 50K cloak planetary event. How did this happen? :O

We'll check into that. I assume you mean the scan happened *after* the flux storm already occurred? If not, that would be normal.

It was an enemy occupied planet, which already had the effect =)

Was scanned by a rank 28 at the time,

He scanned it using 5xWideband Scanner - Mark III Scan +62
With the 3 scanning buff's (+50 +175 then +10%)

Browsing through my planet list I found one that had an existing flux storm too. Zeroed it. Wish I could see the guys face when he got the alert that his 100k cloaked planet was being attacked. LOL

Irreverent considering my legion mate "scanned" the planet whilst having a flux storm effect upon the planet.

Yes, we've heard more than a few reports of the Flux Storms not providing the bonus it should. We're analyzing where the bug is - if we do not find a fix in the next day or so we will simply take the effect out of the event rotation until we do.

So the flux storms are just a "bluff" to make your cloak seem like the planet is well protected.

This. I have a stealth field on one of my planets which I intend to cloak the hell out of and use as storage. It would be nice to have confirmation before I buy a load of storage buildings...

The other abilities are fine. We think it may be related to the fact that the Flux Storms are adding a fixed amount.

Yes, now I'm a little concerned that cloaking a planet up to 17,000+ might not prevent it from being scanned.

If it's mostly from structures then it's probably fine, it just seems like the Flux Storm that doesn't work, possible because static boosts don't work. The game has to process everything at different times, so the structures and dynamic boosts are apparently fine, the Flux Storm (and possibly other static boosts) are the only ones in question.

just a question, does 17000 cloacking prevent you from being scanned at all or just reduce the chance? Maybe its just a misconception, and the guy had 0.0001% chance of scanning it, still he succeed....??

Yes, if Cloak > Scan, the planet is not visible at all.

chance to break through planet's cloak = 1 - planetcloak / shipscan
so if planetcloak is greater than or equal to shipscan, you have 0% (or less!!) chance of seeing the planet

just to clarify...

if you have 5000 scan... and the planet your scanners initially think they pick up is at 4000 cloak...
1 - 4000/5000 = 1 - 4/5 = 5/5 - 4/5 = 5-4 /5 = 1/5 = 20% chance of breaking through the cloak

if you have 5000 scan... and the planet your scanners initially think they pick up is at 5000 cloak...
1 - 5000/5000 = 1 - 5/5 = 5/5 - 5/5 = 5-5 /5 = 0/5 = 0% chance of breaking through that cloak

if you have 5000 scan... and the planet your scanners initially think they pick up is at 6000 cloak...
1 - 6000/5000 = 1 - 6/5 = 5/5 - 6/5 = 5-6 /5 = -1/5 = -20% chance of breaking through that cloak
(in other words you need to boost your scan more than another 20% just to have any chance of seeing this planet)

On this note, I thought Id mention that I scanned a planet when I was between rank 5-10 (using a +50 scan artifact) which boosted my scan to ....mayyybe 80? tops? and it had a flux storm going on.
