Interacting with other players, for good or evil, is a part of many games like this. Even the games that don't have any PvP aspect like Farmville force you to have people who also play the game interact with you.

There are far more missions that do not require a legion than there are those that do. So you should have no problem finding other missions to complete.

It is a social networking game. Why would you not want to join a legion? I am one of those people that will not add Facebook friends for a game, but with the new system I don’t see a reason why you would not want to join one.

Especially as being without a legion (even a small one) makes you a prime target to PVPers.

Having that "No Legion" indicator next to your name is like an open invitation at planetary invasion. On the mean streets of Galaxy Legion, you gotta roll deep.

what i have learned from playing with others in other face book games,
i dont want to be a member of a group of A-holes, i dont like being used for one group leaders personal agenda, dont like being asked to join a group just to raise their stats and be ignored.
.
if being a lone wolf at this time makes me a target, then so be it.
i would rather be in a legion of friends then in a group of jerks, right now none of my friends play this game at this time.
so please excuse me if im willing to wait a while for some of them to start playing, most i have talked to had no idea this game was even around.
.
well i guess the missions that require me to apart of a legion will just have to be passed by for now.

you can make your own legion if you really want to, unless that is that theres some rank requirements im not aware of.

If I recall correctly, there are a couple of early missions that require a legion of 4 or 10 "allies", but I have not seen once since.

There really aren't any drawbacks to being in a legion compared to the benefits. Some of the lowbies in my legion keep sharing bad planets, so maybe spam, but that is really negligible.

Some mission requirements encourage you to explore different aspects of the game. Along with the missions that require a number of legion members there are missions that require a number of successful hack, raids, invasions and disabling of enemy ships.
There are plenty of legions that are exist mainly to boost the planet defenses of the members and don’t put any requirements on their members. You can join one of those then leave it when you are done with the mission if you don’t like it.

Gonna have to agree with what the others have said on this one... Dan has done a great job of balancing this game. Far more than most other facebook games I have played. And, he is very responsive to our ideas and input. (for example, he changed the legion alert range because of requests, then changed it back when more folks liked the original manner.) You Do Not have to join a legion... just like you Do Not have to hack anyone or disable anyone, but the choices you make affect the rest of your game. I for one, love it!

PS- for more on this concept, see the hotly debated forum posts about Crews vs Decks. Here again, your choice has consequences.

Agreed, KingJuggernaut and point well made.

As a Legion holdout until the new Legion system was implemented, I transitioned from having one strong viewpoint to the other.

Originally I was a rogue and wanted nothing more than to remain independent throughout my own game experience.

Early on I formed the opinion that Legions were only for bands of bullies or like-minded opportunists.

Not interested...I only wanted to stake out my own claim on the game and to never involve another ship in that pursuit.

Dan it was your game but as player it was my rules and my conditions for victory. Probably your vision all along and thanks again.

Having now formed a training Legion intended for new members (Loc Nar Seekers), I can tell you that interacting with the other Legion members, sharing and sending artifacts and resources, scambling to the defense of and communicating the objectives of Legion members are all exactly why Galaxy Legion integrates so well with Facebook and why Legion gameplay is likely here to stay.

Legion interactions are enriching and welcome additions - the Legion dynamic has yet to achieve its full potential and if you hate it now it can only be from never joining or forming a Legion to know.

Whether their stated intention is to more effectively deal harm (like my frien-emy KingJuggernaut), or the Loc Nar Seekers chosen path of benevolence to aid new players and grow the base population - there is an enjoyable dynamic to Legion membership which should eventually encourage all nomads, ronin, alphas and masterless to either join or form their own Legion.

You might have a strong opinion that you are a tactical genius right now, but imagine leading a Legion of 49 like-minded individuals and wreaking havoc on the universe - you might be able to find out how Nocifer Deathblade can sleep at night when your vision unfolds.

The DoO Legion are one of the most active topics within these Forums - you are either one of them or you hate them, but you better be aware of them or your ship is guaranteed to be cast adrift, hacked and raided with utter abandon and typically without cause!

***Attention: To all old and new respected DoO Legion members and individually to Nocifer Deathblade***

While you were mentioned as reference, please take note is was only done with respect and in the proper context of a warning that your esteemed collective and single ship has a presence which is palpable within the game!

I still remember your last DoO alert all too well and actually do respect your role in the experience despite our history!

Maintaining eye contact...making no big arm movements...backing away slowly...

Scimitar you are probably going to eventually want to join or form a Legion.

It could even eventually be considered a liability or vulnerability to not be a Legion member and you appear otherwise well-balanced.

Thanks for posting!
