Ok I thought I'd leave a observation/opinion now that I've spent a little time with our new system.

I'm coming from having a legion of 680+ so I was use to seeing a lot of alerts, NPC's, defends, invades, you name it, maybe I didn't get involved much but the option was there, well today I saw a total of 12 alerts, yep 12 - there was literally more excitement watching my kids mow the yard.
I ran thru some pvp, came close to finishing up 2 more missions, moved my ship around to help 2 legion mates defend planets that wasn't attacked once we were defending, spent my artifact and mineral points, and well thats it, my work, as some of the folks in my legion know allows me to be in front of a computer 12 hours + daily and compared to a few days ago this was not exactly what I would call memorable, for my two cents I'd rather have the old system back, this is to much like some other Facebook games (Castle age comes to mind) that although enjoyable the extent of the game play is signing on every morning, spending my energy in one way or another and logging off to do the same thing that evening then rinse and repeat.

I think right now the problem is that people are still getting used to the new system, I wouldnt be surprised if in a week or 2 things are more exciting.

I hope your right Coth, and its a holiday weekend to boot, so I'm sure that has a impact, but I wanted to share my first impression because it frankly has me worried, hehe maybe that means I take my game to seriously :)

Has your in game activity declined?

its increased, but thats probably because instead of having 14 FB friends that play I now have 23 legion members, though its seems that in the lower ranks (20-60s) theres quite a bit of activity.

What I hate is that the bonus keeps fluctuating from 96-100%.. I used to have more than 100 friends playing the game now.. adjustments with the legion is ruining the bonus on my planets.

but what I really hate is that now i will only get Alerts on elite NPC from only 50 ppl... What if they only play whenever im sleeping. tsk tsk tsk.. :( I really wanted more members on the legion that I join. but the limit is 50 what can I do.. :(

Cool, I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting but it was not a slow day like today was. Well maybe things will pick up with time as folks settle in to the new system and other features get added, if not perhaps Dan would consider some way to increase the limits. I just dont want to see GL turn into just another FB game, 20 min every morning and every evening and its pretty much forgotten.

You have a good point Remric I hadn't considered and it got me thinking, for the folks who dont have there full compliment of NPC equipment its going to be a much longer ride now than it was before, and maybe a lot harder for those legions that have players over all the rank spectrum's may not be able to focus enough firepower to drop some npc's.

Yeah, I told my legion to fight NPC's partially so we would be on both leaderboards without actually starting some crazy conflict. With the way I have had to play the game it is quite a blessing though. Fighting nearly anyone above my level involved fighting the top 200 players in the game. There is an XP bonus for defeating someone higher level than yourself believe it or not. I actually look forward to deleting half my friends on facebook. All that is left really is for Dan to find a new way to promote the game aside from it already being awesome.

While I understand that it worked out negatively for you, it did just the opposite for me. You see, up until now that's exactly what GL was for me, a 10 minute morning and evening game, because I was unwilling to add people I did not know to my FB friends (for those who asked to friend me, that's why you got ignored; it was nothing personal). As a result, I previously had a group of 4, including me. Now that I have a legion of 13 (yes, nowhere near 50 yet), last night I received two ship alerts and helped defend a planet. Not much by your standards, but it was much more than the usual nothing at all.

What the new legion system does is help balance out the experience among all the players. That's what a game of this type should be about - balance - shouldn't it?

And while you might casually say that I could always have joined DoO, in practice, they wouldn't have wanted me since I'm not much into PvP. The only other pre-existing legion I'd heard of was The Dark Side, and I'm a bit timid to go all out with hacking/raiding/whatever as well (since the new system, I've heard of a bunch of other pre-existing ones, but they were all unadvertised, so to my way of thinking, elitist and not for me either). The newly created multi-legion system allows for all play styles and lets people new to the game jump right in. Yes, old-timers are going to have to adapt, but think of it this way: You old-timers are the ones that gave Dan the idea in the first place; this was something missing from the game or it wouldn't have had to be created on the side. Now it's in the game, sort of like a fan getting their fanfiction legitimately published. But like that fan, you still had to suffer through the editing process.

My only major concern with this new legion system is NPC alerts.

If Dan allowed NPC (and only NPC) alerts to be shared by all of your FB friends, not just in-game legions, then I'd be very happy.

Yeah, the rare NPCs are pretty rare now. I spent 4000 energy fighting NPCs and got 1 vortul and 2 TO troop carriers. The troop carriers were kind of lucky but the elite boss NPCs could be a little more common. I have seen two from my group so far and I've provided one since the new system. I guess that might be a lot to someone that never added any friends though.

I like the new legion system. Keeps things more personal. I work closely and have spoken with my legion members. We are a team and not a large group of random misfits like before. I saw more alerts as well but I think the fix is to ask for more alerts and not to disband what is happening. Plus I am slowly eliminating people who take dead space in facebook.

In time, 50 member limit will feel smaller and smaller as the game and guilds expand..
So if there was an option to expand the legion size limit to 100 (and get 1% bonus per member) would be nice.

Legions with 50 members limit would still get 2%/member bonus,
(so small/private/elite legions can still benefit from bonus)
and big legions with people who'd like to get more alerts on their comm would also benefit.
:)
