self-deprecating or self-effacing humour from the "victims" are sometimes accepted. If it's your mom then you are probably the most eligible person(other than your father and grandparents of the mother's side) to joke a bit as you will be the closest thing to a "victom". And culture differ from place to place, some place are more stern where any joke etc would be unacceptable (strict catholic perhaps?) whereas some place they might really toss a party(and I really mean a party party, with dancing and stuff). Based on that, you might have done something that others would consider distasteful, but you also might not, I can't really judge without knowing a whole lot about your personal life and community which I don't plan to.
As GL community is from all over the nation if not the world, we can't assume them to be of the latter and more free nature. As such it would be best to keep a more composed manner, better safe than sorry.
