Mostly Harmless is a legion for players of any rank activity level that are not focused on PVP. We would like players with a verity of play styles (NPC farmers, planet seekers, mission specialists…) to join our ranks. Having complementary play styles will help or legion members become the best players they can.

NPC farmers focus on battle strength and fighting NPCs. They find and share the rare NPCs with multiple loot drops. They also use their battle strength to help defend the legion when necessary. There is a verity of ways to build a good combat ship from all decks with a balance research, mining and artifact production to a small ship with all crew and all artifact production.

Planet seekers focus on researching scanning technology to find the best planets. These players will have planets in their database that they will not colonize but will be better than other play styles or low level members can find on their own. They will support the legion by sharing planets. I am a planet seeker looking for the legendary planet of Magrathea.

Mission specialists are usually active players that focus on energy research. They will have the energy necessary to assist in NPC fights and legion defense when necessary.

All active legion members help with boosting planetary defense bonus and discouraging attacks. Inactive players will be booted once the legion fills up.

Guidelines and recommendations for legion members
These are not rules that you must follow to be a member of Mostly Harmless. They are suggestions to help you get the most out of being a member of Mostly Harmless.

Legion communication
Good communication helps make the most of legion resources. Please check the legion comm. when you log on to play. Here are some examples of good uses of the Legion Comm:
I am going to scan for planets tomorrow and could use a Subspace Seeker and Techyon Cylinder.
I have a planet slot open and want a research planet but the best one I have is an average abundant. I would appreciate it if someone could help out with something better.
I have a Sketh, Stryll Predator I will share in about 4 hours.
<Player X> of <Legion Y> attacked me unprovoked and set off traps A and B. I will keep you informed of any further action.

Cloaking
To stay out of trouble I recommend keeping cloaking of greater than 150 for ranks up to 75 and cloaking greater than 250 for ranks above 75.

Player vs Player
PVP is part of the game and it is ok to do some PVP as a legion member. I encourage you to complete the mission requirements of 50 hacks, 20 disables, 5 raids and 2 invasions early in your career. Pick your targets wisely and do not alert the legion to help you against another player if you have been starting PVP in the last couple of days. If another player responds to your attack take your 2 days of retribution and move on. The game system prevents too much abuse by other players and their legion with action limits.

Planet Invasions
Sometimes a planet controlled by another player can be too tempting to pass on, but you should not take it unless you can flux it or defend it on your own. You should carefully consider the resource cost of defending a planet on someone else’s scan list. If it is a very large mega rich planet then it may be worth getting the legion involved.

Legion Defense
If a good planet is under attack but has not been invaded alert the legion right away. With all other types of alerts you should post the situation on the legion comm. before alerting so the response can be coordinated for a greater chance of victory.
While aggressive players recommend you do not set traps and just roll over and play dead when they attack you I do not. I recommend setting traps and using a strategic response.
Please post on the legion comm. whenever you are attacked so we can see patterns and make recommendations. Do not post threats on an attacking player’s comm., it never helps.

If someone just sets off some of your traps and moves on, just reset some traps. If they continue to attack then you should try using a net. If that does not work then it is time for a strategic legion response.
A strategic response is designed to use up the enemies resources at a greater rate than yours. Maximize your defense and hull to make it take them use up a lot of energy when attacking you. Make small attack runs and hacks to use up their traps. If they have several buffs up use an Omicron Net. Remove their cloaking with Positron Clouders to make them a target for other players. Only use your artifacts on the enemy one at a time because they can remove them all at once with Containment Cage. This type of response can take days, but is less waist full then a full legion war. If this does not work then it is time for a coordinated legion attack to disable, raid and hack. Legion members may help you with the attacks or just supply some artifacts. I will not require legion members to participate in any of these actions.

If the enemy posts on your wall that they will no longer take any offensive action against a Mostly Harmless member then stop all attacks and post on the legion comm. Let the enemy make the first attack each day and post on the wall when they do.

With the latest update, attackers no longer can see the victim through the trap trigger message. So, with halcyon trap and else, peaceful ships can now defend themselves from anyone. :)

That is true. Most of the time an attacker will hit your trap then you will not see them again. That is one reason to not respond if all they do is hit some traps. Peaceful players should be safe with a high enough cloak and artifact production to replace traps.

We could use a few more rank 125+ members to help with the 200 npc bosses.

It's not the only legion with free space you know. The Zepther Empire needs a few more npc-capable members as well.
