There is currently a minimum rank of 30 in place for creating a legion. Make this MUCH higher. Like rank 500.
Thank you for your time.

bad idear, simply becourse NPC you can share in legion starts from rank 50 and the first of them expires long before rank 500
Lazuli Factory Complex = Rank 50 - 180 The Dark Ring = Rank 60 - 450 Akkiren, Drannik Hub = Rank 60 - 150 Vortul, Crimson Annihilator(small version) = rank 75 - 200
etc etc etc, just to name a few of them
sure, they could join an exsistant legion where 90% of the members proberly cant see these alerts or help them kill them but if a few rank 50 to 200 players wants to make a legion with theire friends, I dont realy see why they shouldnt be aloved to do so

There are loads of people <R100 making crappy legions and then getting bored of the game because nobody joins their legion. Then they quit.

The basic problem is worth trying to solve, even if a simple rank requirement may not be the best solution due to NPCs (I personally think it may help though). Too many ships create legions instead of joining established legions and reduce the playability of the game for themselves while also failing to bolster an established legion.

This was pretty much my line of thinking with this suggestion.

Bring in randomized legion assignment.
New player joins the game, is instantly assigned to a legion which has at least 4 open player slots, wherein he cannot leave or be removed from that legion for 2 weeks.
This gives the new player an immediate way to learn how the game looks within a legion, as well as an immediate interaction aspect with other players of all ranks.

So a legion can be designated: training which means such a thing takes place or can be designated:veteran wherin it does not assign players to them

The idea is that you have no choice. If your legion has 4 open slots then you can be assigned one new player which you can train. If your legion had 15 open slots then you could find yourself with 11 new players to train. The idea is to make legions stronger as a whole(planet protection status for one) and better able legions to defend their bases too. Don't want to be a training legion, just have more than 56 members at all times.

lets wait and see what Dan is giving us with his new Training Legions / Training Bases, before we start to asin new players to random legions..... Quote: Suggestions List/Coming Soon
I hope everyone is enjoying the start of Summer. It's been a while since we've updated everyone on what is on our radar. With the final Legion Mission released recently, we're going to now focus on a couple things players have been asking for: more content to fill the seasonal "gap" in Summer, and new ways to help newer players become acquainted with the game.
These aren't necessarily listed in priority order, so some may come before the others. This also isn't exclusive to the things being worked on.
* New Seasonal Events (midsummer and end of summer) * Training Legions / Training Bases * New Art for some of the starting races, common artifacts, ships, and planets * Updated Tutorial with completion medal
We'll reply to this thread soon with more information on what is being started/progressed. also, I think Randomly asigning players to a legion where they cant leave for 2 weeks is a bad idear if it's random they might end up in a legion where they are the only activ member or in a legion that doesnt want new players instead, make it a tuturial/medal where you actualy get a good artifact if you join a legion and stay with it for 2 weeks an idear could be an invinsible, VL terran planet, x2 megarich in artifact and recearch, that is blocked so you cant use artifacts or abilityes on it

i dont think its a bad idea to raise the minimum rank required to form a legion at all. at least rank 100 . IMO part of GLs growth problem is that too many super low ranked people who have no clue what they are doing are starting legions. They screw themselves when they do this and they screw anyone who joins them. Leave legion forming to those who have some experience in the game and who can actually help the people who join them.
I dont like the idea of people automatically joining a legion upon starting the game. Its too random. Guy joins game, auto joins a legion then never logs in again. Now he is stuck in your legion 2 weeks? Sure leaders could have a kick option, but then leaders will just kick everyone who isnt aerlen fixer and wait on the next to auto join.
Dan has stated that he is working on "training Legions". Maybe we should wait and see what he has in mind for this. Does anyone know?

Bumping this because I think it warrants further discussion. Not necessarily the initial suggestion itself but branching out from it to stimulate newer players in the game.

I concur with several points above.
Newbies screw themselves by forming their own special club. A club which will have 1-15 people all of whom will get robbed of everything they own and be used like wet wipes for the behinds of the well managed.
A higher limit would FORCE , per se, people to play longer before they could make eggegrious errors. A higher limit to create would also limit the silly fragmentation of new players into black holes of worthlessness.

I suppose it's beyond the scope of this suggestion, but I think some mechanism for encouraging the dissolution of existing failed* legions would be good too. How to do it is tricky, but there's a surfeit of stagnant barely occupied legions that would be nice to clean up too.
(*we can argue criteria there, but say less than 10 active ships for more than a month or something)

Perhaps there could be two types of legion creation. One is directly founding of a legion, with a higher requirement The other is a "charter", where the leader must have a number of players to "sign up" before it can be created. This would have little to no requirement.
The only valid arguments "for" allowing lower rank to found a legion seems to be centered around finding a group of like ranked friends to do elites, and this would allow such a group to create a legion together, if they can gather enough to make that a valid reason. Otherwise, there is really no reason making new legions.
Granted, alt spam can still create a legion by oneself at low rank, but that'd be both against the rules and a lot of work for very little benefit. Doubt people would do that.
But yes, we can see what training does first before anything else.
