As a slow ranker I wince every time I rank up and see my SS:Rank ratio go down... I'm a content slow ranker because I like having a sturdy ship among other ships.
I would like to suggest that an artifact that (opposite to the neural interface) reduces the amount of experience gained by 15% - like neural interfaces this would be a standard artifact that would be added to the roster (not an NPC drop)
It seems like a fair compromise that if you can have the option to gain your xp intake by +15% then, on the same token, you should also have the option to reduce you xp intake by -15%
What do you think everyone?

I figured I'd see it once in a while if it were suggested so often Also your last post regarding this specific idea being suggested " a million and a half times" was incorrect in number and in actual idea content - My suggestion of -15% is a lot more reasonable than the former idea which suggested a 50% reduction. In those respects perhaps you could use your own advice, conduct a search, and realize that a difference of 35% makes the idea entirely novel in comparison.

Just to save DFs time, I'll go ahead and quote his post... from Sat Sep 08, 2012Darth Flagitious wrote: Oh FFS... People need to learn how to use the damn Search function... Goes back well over a year. Obviously, if a negative experience mechanic was a good idea, Dan would have put it in already judging by his anti-autorank tendencies. The bottom line is, if you don't want experience (and I said this in one of the above threads) don't do anything. Take your relays or reactors out. Hack and raid for no points. Use your cabbage head for something other than cole slaw. Be strategic. Can you imagine if some of the people that play this game with 15k, 20k energy bars got no experience for NPCing? Scarf down a few cubes or Tmats and a stupid pill and get countless production boosting artifacts.

So Flag's post was.... 1 year 7 months and 8 days ago... and we're calling this an idea that has been repeatedly brought up...? Check the date when I joined the forum... The game has come a long from then and now may be a time to resurface the question...... Additionally these suggestions (from myself and any other poster) is geared towards making the game more versatile and fun for all the users... While your frustrations are duly noted perhaps keep such intentions in mind before flaming an idea and the individuals who come up with them. ------- Note: Those are Flag's words and not yours so I responded how I would to that post in particular - so, if you intended no malice with your post, then any harmful comments are retracted towards you Jackie.

The fact that there were already that many threads with this idea that long ago is evidence that the idea has been repeatedly brought up. The number of threads made with this idea has only increased over the years as more and more people realized the vast superiority of staying lower ranked, as well as realizing that the content for players past 2200 was pretty much missing. Your argument that you are newer to the forum is grounds perhaps not to insult you, but the reluctance you feel to admit your error in not doing basic research is.

And how much has changed and been reconsidered since that time? Innovations additions and bug fixes all have been added to the game so no.. I wouldn't consider my self wrong to suggest something that (While I thought it novel) is an outdated argument whether or not to implement said artifact... On a larger and more salient scale that's actually how the judicial system and modification to policies come about - raising an issue/question/idea in order to push what you would like. Women's suffrage, Jim Crowe Laws, etc. none would've been amended using your rationale.
-------
Forget the artifact I see it has been shot down for its own reasons -- however I would like to point out (myself as proof) that this game is ever changing losing veteran members and gaining fresh members daily. Opinion on such issues may change & they may not. We shouldn't be sticking with stare decisis here otherwise the game will flat-line (refer to my latter comment for an example outside of GL)

Opinions may change over time, but facts do not. It is a FACT that a negative experience artifact of any sort would have a negative effect on the game. I (and several other very experienced players) outlined in several of the threads I linked 2 years ago (and several more since then) exactly how it would be bad. I'd like to think that the reason there aren't as many re-suggestions of this is we've made enough sense in our explanations that people actually get it. I stand by my previous statement... I wrote: Oh FFS... People need to learn how to use the damn Search function... PS: Thanks Jackie for trying. A for Effort.

Upon further investigation into each thread posted and each individual comment allegedly proving me wrong. I believe the amount of dissent regarding the idea has been rather embellished by you gentlemen. Each post I read had ideas ranging from races that provide an effect of - 10% exp to an NPC artifact drop that reduces xp gains by 50% (way to much of an xp cut). I simply offered the option of the exact opposite of a neural interface. While I was about to admit defeat I saw plenty of +1's and support for the idea(s) none of which are exactly like mine (thus support for the idea exists). Similar in terms of generic idea...yes but entirely different when it comes to the actual details of that idea. Perhaps Flag read more carefully before you so jump to damning an individual's suggestion to the trash bin based off of a quick skim.

While you may easily abandon your own opinion when confronted, I do not. While the latter statement by you is your opinion I'm sure you'll uphold your principle behind your insult and be the bigger man by letting me get the last word in. Otherwise you would change you name to double-standard hypocrite

Otherwise you would change you name to double-standard hypocrite Its been proven to be a game changer plenty of times. If implemented why should someone be able to use it for 2,000 ranks and in theory get an extra 300 ranks worth of potential NPCs? Its been proven wrong plenty of times if you read the threads It would be like me saying slavery should be practiced throughout the world. The rich people without morals would agree. I would think its just and continue advocating while others are fully aware of the morals issues with it. Some people don't bother to look at the flaws even when theyre being pointed out. (Im not in favor of slavery).

My last 2 comments were specifically to deal with trolls harshly. But Flag made it clear which is what I meant when i said justifiably prove my idea wrong. You mentioned a couple things he said as well but, yes I am no longer under the impression this arti is a good idea because of the individual such a Flag and yourself who post relevant text as opposed to the mere insults and ignorance from a few.

Just keep working on your arti. Get it high enough and normal (or even 2-3 a day) ranking won't cause your SS:Rank to go down. I strongly disagree with your suggestion (reasons already laid out), but see no reason to be snarky or combative about it; it's not like an angel get his wings ripped off every time somebody suggests something that can already be found via search feature.

When I initially read the first few posts, I thought "stupid idea". However, what if the arti was about as common (or rare as the case may be) as RSL implants rather than neurals (and unsharable so people couldn't stockpile them)? I'm sure we've all had that time where you HAVE to use an energy arti to finish a legion mission task or kill a base but it leaves you with a huge surplus of energy. It would be handy to have an arti to use on the very odd occasion that could make more use of this surplus energy. It could have a 10 minute limit, so it can't be used for a full rank's worth of npcing but you could burn the energy on a mission.
