I was thinking, I've played a few Facebook games and some of the "RPG's" have cross classes. Like you do so many levels in this class and then so many levels in another and you unlock a class that's a combination of both. There's a few unlockable races in GL right now but nothing has been done to the professions. I propose a cross class system, say for every 2 ranks you advance you get a point towards upgrading your current profession. Say you would need 25 profession points to max out a standard profession, and unlock missions based on profession which you could pick from to change what you currently are. Then another 50 levels later you'd unlock a mission for the cross profession that matches your two maxed professions, at the completion of that mission you would now be the new profession.

Some examples I've thought up are
Tactician-Fixer+Physicist=plus 20% to hull and shields
Archeologist-Miner+Excavator=plus 5% to mining and artifact
Master Mechanic-Builder+Fixer=minus 25% upkeep, plus 15% hull
Skirmisher-Spy+Explorer=plus 10% cloak and scanning
Conquerer-Biologist+Raider=plus 20% raiding and population
Covert Operative-Spy+Hacker=plus 10% cloak and 15% Hacking

I like the idea tho i would also like to see you able to put them in a profession you don't have not as good a deal as the set ones but gives you a bonus in the area.

Yes but then everyone would be the same, this is for a bit of diversity.
