personally i do carry much cloak on myself on off hours, because of this some people hack me, repeatably, so normally I would go a kick their asses for this offense but with all the hylocon traps on people i just keepp getting pacified. Now I know that as I decide not to carry muich cloak im subject to these kinds of attack but I feel that if we can let those who dont have focus on offense or defense defend themselves, why not do the same for hacking?
Thusly I suggest Hack Traps. Discuss!

I like very much the hack because precisely it's another form of attack with it's ways and it implies another strategy. + you are high lvl so you make an interesting target for planet location stealing. Hack trap hmm perhaps a positron clouder type trap ... Why not ... But in the end, if you are pissed off by hacks ... Then keep some scans installed you can't have it all ...

I understand i should get more scan, the idea is though exactly what you said Zhorgul wrote: you can't have it all ... I ask Why should those who specialize in it get it all and those who dont, not?

Then again, it's a question of consequences there.

@Zhorgul Personally I dont feel this is a question of consequences as much as it is a question of fairness. why should those who specialize in hacking not have a definite weak spot while those who dont do have one?
@Headless how could I forget

Hack traps make sense to me. There are a few ways they could work:
1) You deliberately store bad data on your computers. Anyone who hacks you while the trap is active loses research points, instead of gaining them.
2) You install a virus on your computer, that infects the enemy ship when your computer is hacked. Enemy scanning and/or cloaking is reduced for the duration of the trap.
3) You have specialized, cloaked demolition bots on your ship, that activate when a hack is attempted. While the enemy is concentrating on the hack, they sneak on over and plant charges on the enemy ship. Physical damage varies by potency of the artifact.

Here is another hack trap: Datascan Mirror- if the enemy gains the location of a planet from you, you gain the location of a planet from them!

How bout Advanced Firewall: Hack automatically fails Encrypted data: Makes it much harder to access data, doubles the hack timer and triples chance to fail Cant think of name: hack goes almost normally( low % increase in fail chance) but you cannot get hacked for 24 or 48 hours Counter-virus: infects enemy computer preventing him from doing hacks for 24 hours

I just critical failed twice at hacking on a noob so ... I really think hack traps are not that necessary ... the system is already bad enough ... And get some scans instead

I've been lucky enough to have been mostly left alone, the few people that did hack me I went after and disabled, no harm no foul. But I finally made it onto the target list for one of the game's biggest hackers, and she LOVES popping traps. I say if she can prevent me from counterattacking with traps (halcyon) I should be able to lay a hack trap.
I really like all 3 trap ideas suggested by Pyrusticia.
