I think the game would be even more realistic if I could PAY to hire engineers, expand my ship size, etc.

By the time you reach rank 100 you have BILLIONS of credits(I had about 2 billion). If this was implemented yes it would be more realistic but it would COMPLETLY and UTTERLY unbalance the game because people over rank 100 would be able to buy massive ammounts of rp. So in summary...
NO

If you ever want to make a idea, please be more constructive.

ExSead, telling him it's a bad idea (which is okay) is not the same as saying 'don't throw your ideas out there...' I concur it was a lousy one, but don't discourage him from suggesting all the stupid things he can think of, like we can all think of. My next suggestion: The word 'EPIC!!' flashed across my victim's screen when I flux their planet I just stole! ~Drake Lmao

Oh, just got back, and ExSea, don't be that hard on him, hes just trying to make the game more realistic and, personally, I also like realistic games, just not when it unbalances things. He probably didnt know it would unbalance things because hes a low rank and didnt know of the massive income of rank 100+'s.

I think he has a decent point. Though you can just buy levels after you research some reactors. Someone said it takes 3$ to level and I laughed my ass off. My god, play the game. If I played objectively, it would be 11 hours a levels at level 180 with paying nothing. reactors are levels. With artifacts and NPC's I'm 2/3 done with a level from a leveling's worth of energy. It isn't all relays and waiting. I'm actually contemplating the ridiculous upkeep of supernova reactors. That being said, I'm a good 350 points ahead on decks alone from artifacts.
Edit: oh he said credits, not GP

The only way I could see it happening would be a limit per level as to how many you could buy, or an increacing exponential price for however many you are buying.
The problem with the first part is it would essentially be a few rank points that could be bought with credits instead of rankpoints.
The problem with the second way is that it either becomes eventually so expensive that even the mega-rich can't buy them (kind of a soft-cap) or they stay so cheap that peoples ships become flooded with them.
Something that might be able to be done is a scaling cost for a percentage boost of production. Cost scales with the productivity and rank of the player. The boost would have to be very expensive, but 10% production increase tops. Anything over that would be unbalancing.
Overall I just do not see hirable crew for credits working, sorry.
