 Special Race Modules

Does anybody else think that your race should have special modules? If you are a Human then you get your ship bonus, but you also get one or two special modules that are build able to add some other advantages. New and better modules could unlock every several levels. A human could get a module that adds a 2% bonus to scanning or something. After all, I rather doubt that every single species in the Universe has the practically same technology as everybody. Does everybody else like it?

Yeah sounds like a Great Idea and has been done in many other games And would open up a whole new branch of spying and stealing tech.
that being said I doubt it will get implemented as the suggestion doesn't come from one of the members of a favored elitist Legion :shock:

I believe the problem with this could be that a flavor of the week would start up and many would find that their decisions would later be stupid ones. There already is a bit of one with this but I believe that making race exclusive modules could make this even worse. Of course the opposite could happen as well. But I would assume it would take extensive testing to get a balance.

Well yes, it could all work out somehow. There could be equivalents in each module. If a Konqul has a mega cannon, then an Aerlen has a mega thruster equivalent, and so would the other races, just in a different form. If balance doesn't work out, then it could be re-worked a little bit.

I think the idea would have to be embellished a bit to be worthwhile. If a race's equipment does the same thing as their bonus, then the only difference would be another picture in your inventory and maybe some decks taken up. +20% research from being a vygoid is already pretty tough to effectively use up at higher levels. I think it would make more sense if race modules helped define some kind of secondary racial characteristics. Like maybe modules that go along with the available professions of a given race.

I think it might be a decent way for Dan to make a buck though if it gave percentage type bonuses.

I think if there were special artifacts that only a certain race could use and/or get, that it would leave a lot more options. They could still be modules, but that never seemed like the awesomest ideas since decks are limited for 99% of players and most become outdated by research. unless you are looking to max out a certain stat. Artifacts are inclusive of almost everything in the game. It could be an insanely efficient production structure, or a consumable artifact that gives some unique temporary advantage. You could limit it by profession as well. I think it would make more sense if they weren't things that stacked with the already existing racial bonuses.

I agree with spoony, making the tech geared towards profession is a better idea.

The trick, of course, is what happens to those modules when you change race/profession? Do the modules change, or do you keep them? I can see arguments made either way...

I kind of think that the racial bonuses and profession bonuses are there to make your tech a little bit different, so I would say that this is probably not needed.

Great idea, it would make each individual race more unique.However I believe it would be possible for one race to become overpowered to another.
This idea would require alot of work, but worthwhile, I believe.
