I thought it would be a great idea if there was a junk yard where you could buy random modules. There could be even really advanced weapons and defenses, but they are in poor condition, and not very powerful. There could also be other non-research modules such as overcharged plasma cannons, ion charge launchers, subspace impulse canons, etc, etc. You could even auction off some modules to other players. Does anybody else like it?

A similar concept was already suggested, in which it was shot down for unbalancing. This is because it allows lower level players access to tech far better than anyone on the same level.

Well, what you could buy could be regulated by your level. A level 5 player couldn't just buy a Thetacron cannon, because he wasn't even close to a high enough level.

Thats not the only thing but it would also make research usless. I have nothing against you idea and I do like some of the special items idea but if you could get what ever from the scrap yard then why would you research it for your self?

Cuase the scrap yard stuff is well...scrap. It's not as good as research. You can get other versions of modules, but research stuff is better. They scrap is just cheap, and may be better for some game play styles.

I don't know if I like the idea of an organized scrap yard, but possibly for finding random modules that are scrap. Could be a chance to find one for each FAILED scan attempt while looking for planets?

Make it a "One Time Use" object like an Artifact.

Kind of a more randomized radiant weapons locker. Doubt the scrap would be radiant though!
