This has been very successful in a non-facebook MMO I play, so I just thought is GL could try it. A timed event gives 2 missions, but only 1 can be done by the player. Then when the event is over, the number of completions is added up for each mission. The one with the higher count determines the fate of events to come. (an example is a war event where each mission represents fighting for one side or the other, the mission that is completed more determines who wins the war)
