Ok, I will be rolling out a change soon to hopefully make chassis a little more rewarding for all player ranges. Let me know if this works:
A Chassis will take 1 space and keep the same effects as they do now. However, chassis will have a limit to the number that can be built in a single planet. I think this chimes with some of the previous comments.
At 1 space, any chassis will be worth installing as they provide a superior resource/space ratio than even the best tech, and can be fit much easier.

What if someone has a planet that exceeds this "chassis limit" already??

This is fine. I ran a scan and only a very small number of planets fell into that category.
