I suggest that the XP gained from PVP be based off ship strength not rank. IMO if a rank 100 has the ship strength of a rank 30 I dont see why it should be considered the same as a rank 100 with the ship strength a rank 100 would have.

it would give better incentive for fighting other tough people, as opposed to aiming for the weakest.

Unless of course, you are just attacking to raise kills for mission requirements, which is the only reason why I do it.

Im just tired of facing off against people who are actually speccing n PVP so they re as strong as me but because they're 40 ranks below me they're getting outrageous amounts of XP.

how is a -40 rank player even get you on a battle list? If you have better cloaking I don't think you will get in that much combat. Also, having big enough guns on your ship is a good deterrent from fighting.

Ah, so the only problem is all the reports and repairs, and not the fights right?

I think the basic premise of this is that xp was increased when attacking others because it was extremely hard for people that like pvp to level due to the low xp factor. Now what has happened is that those that do like to fight tend to prey on the weak because you get less retribution and frankly its just easier. However by focusing the "bonus" xp more to ship strength as opposed to level, it will make people think of attacking others that like to fight more (thus reducing the strain on those that like to live a peaceful existance).
Also with the new change where the battle list does not recycle as much, you tend to see the same people more often. So if you are weak (aka peaceful) and in the level range of a sadistic tyrant, your gonna get hit a lot. Yes I know you can always raise your cloaking to try and get out of their list. This concept just more rewards the fighters fighting the fighters. Lets promote battles like Frasier vs Ali, not Ali vs Martin Luther King.

How are you in the battle lists of ppl 40 lvls below you? I thought you could only see ppl 5 ranks above or below you.

people share names. there's no amount of cloaking that can block a share. If someone hacks you, and you retaliate by killing them back, then that guy can share your name with the 100 (or however many he has) friends he has in his legion.
and btw I see in my battle log someone 47 levels below me.

that is because you are probably a level where there are alot of people. When you are up in the top 20 people in the whole game, there aren't many around, so the game has to stretch to fill the 10 people you can attack battle list. So top person atm is 170, and number 10 is 122. That's a big difference. So I'd say #20 is probably around level 95-100. And you have to remove maybe 25% of the people in that range from my battle list because they might have good cloaking. See where this is going. In order to fill in the 10 person battle list slots, the game goes down to 47 levels below me.
if you are level 40. There are probably 1000 people in your range ;P

@ 59 i think i get +/- 15 mostly lower now because more of the higher ranks have cloaking.

Back on topic, a good way to contribute to equal PVP would be a ranking system that is not based on kills and fights, but based on acomplishment. That way, XP can be awarded based on chalange instead of rank. For instance, gaining more xp based on the opponent's attack and defense instead of their rank. A higher rank person would have better technologies so if they do fight full power, they will grant more xp than a lower rank player in combat, so xp gains would still increase with rank.
Also, this allows a reward system in the form of trophies just like other games have used. An example trophy would be defeating an opponent that has all 8 cannon slots full. These can give xp rewards (including Galaxy points if needed) and can introduce a trophies leaderboard. Which I think would be much more satisfying to be the at the top of the trophy leaderboard than the top of the kill leaderboard.
