Each race gets a bonus tech tier added to their research tree based on their racial bonus only allowed to them. I.E. Aeleron would get a bonus tier to ship defense, Konqul would get a bonus tier to weapons. Inergon would get a bonus tier to power systems. May not work though since some of the bonuses, such as hacker are under proffessions and not the races.
