If you reset your character after having earned medals, the medals you earned from the first character carry over to the second.
Ive got 60 points earned right now, but when i mouse over the new battle market items, it says I have 165.
I know I had points earned before i reset my character, I don't remember how many though.
This is just what I think has happened.

The points will re-sync shortly after the reset. We'll look into why it wasn't happening immediately, though.
