Post subject: | Battle Tab question |
So I just hit rank 101 and suddenly my BT is full of much higher ranked people. 2 rank 199's, 187, 180, 176, 173, 172, 146, 116, and a 111. So out of 10, only 3 ppl can actually badge me. I tried upping and lowering the scan/cloak but nothing is helping. Lowering the scan gives me a rank 201, 197, 189, 189, 187, 185, 181, 171, 161, 142. Not sure how I can do pvp versus ppl who have that many more ranks/decks/etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Improve your sensors, I keep 1 on at all times, it helps with critical hits and also helps giving u a better bt selection. Also raise you're cloaking to keep your ship off the Bt |

I'm not thoroughly convinced about the scan tweaking, to be honest. BUT... I've noticed that from time to time, my BT gets flooded with much higher ships. It usually only lasts for 8 hours or so, then it goes back to nice squishy easy reds for base scanning. |

I have played around with the scan power and cloak. Adding 100's more and uninstalling most of it. Nothing has helped. Hopefully it only lasts 8 hours like Darth says. I am putting all my scanners back where they were earlier and hope it works itself out. |

Well I hope others post on here with their experiance, so we all can find out more, but from mine If i lower my scanning and the next morning my Bt has higher ranked players on it. If I keep atleast 1 sensor online+ some other modules then the next morning I will be destroying almost anyone on my bt, maybe 1 out of every 10 is a bit tough |

On Cloak it is effective. I take my cloak off when i was lower ranked and I would get hit non stop, I put 1 or 2 on and wait till the morning and I go days without being touched. I don't know maybe the key is once u install or uninstall sensors or cloak U have to wait 8+ hrs for it to change on bt? No idea, but I've seen the difference |

The thing that makes me question the Higher Scan = Softer Targets hypothesis is that it seems counter-intuitive. Scan is supposed to defeat cloak. Lowering your scan SHOULD mean you see less targets with high relative cloak. Who NORMALLY has more cloak? Higher rank players with the decks to install cloak. So to me, raising your scan should mean you would expect to find harder targets. |

So to me, raising your scan should mean you would expect to find harder targets. While this is true (and additionally slow rankers generally have the extra decks for more cloak as well), you'll also get some of the hacker/"pure scanners" (who totally aren't scan multis) who run mostly cloak and energy (and scan with the pure scanners) with a higher scan as well. Sometimes it can be a double-edged sword; you can find some higher ranks/more powerful players, or you could have your BT filled with hackers/scanners. |

Scan does beat cloak which provides for a larger amount of possible enemies. Law of averages theoretically means that with a larger sample, one would be more likely to find reasonable targets perhaps among the people who decided to use only two modules in order to be seen less instead of going for 5 hull or 8 guns...that being said with the seemingly usual tactic of pouring lots of points into decks in the first 200 or so levels the people with more cloak likely do have more hull and more guns. |

11 hours since this thread and it hasn't changed. The lowest rank is 142. Just going by rank points, they would have 210 more decks than I have. ![]() |

Well. When I was running 6 scan, I was getting alot of tough targets. Sometimes, you battle tab decides "Know what? F*** YOU!". |

I dont mind tough targets, just make them a little closer to my rank. All rank 100-120 on my BT would be great. Missions get boring and I rarely find any good NPC's at my rank. |

Ahh, by "tough" targets, mine was about the same as yours is. Also, if I have too much scan, I get high ranks. So, realistically, scan wise, you wan't a happy medium. At 261, I have found 150-300 to be effective. At your rank? Not a clue. |

Still hasn't worked itself out. In the past 2 hours, I have been hacked by Rank 136 Cheal of Star Force and disabled/hacked/multi arti spammed by Rank 130 Migkhe of We Don't Exist. Both must have junk ships to have to hit 30 ranks below them. WDE must be taking anyone these days. Plus their BT's must be working as they can see ppl below them not just above them. |

Just because their hitting people 30 levels below them doesn't mean they have junk ships or anywhere near. I regularly hit people 60+ ranks below me. Not cause I have a rubish ship, I can take out rank 300+'s if I want to but lower ranks naturally have worse ships and are a better badge to energy ratio. Why use 300+ energy to kill someone when you can use 50 energy? |

That is very true, I've never ever arti spammed anyone, I once threw 2 disarming bombs at a rank 600+ that was attacking a planet of mine but other than that a couple of chaostatic inhibitor's just to get rid of them when I was really low ranked. |

Peh. Hacking someone 30 ranks below means nothing. Just means they saw you as a hackable target and did so. |

Can't say I understand why it was a disable and a hack and not a disable and a raid, but to each their own I suppose. |

I quite often hack/disable because I'm Zolazin, which makes me good at hacking, but my crew is lame. |
