800 took 1k research from 558? I thought it was the other way around.. I pretty sure if i hacked him I probably won't get 1k...

Crit? why didn't say that.. Crit hack doesn't it give a planet?

The amount of scan you have affects the amount of points stolen. If I'm wrong, the guy must have gotten lucky.

the amount of cloak and scan each of you have help determine the chances of success, and what percentage of your accumulated research is stolen.

However, the more research you have on hand the larger the amount of research the attacker will gain from you.

For instance one day about 8 to 10 months ago, I hacked Psicore who had multi-hacked me for thousands of RP to a total of about 20K RP in response to a fellow member legion alerting me when I had only badged them.

Since Psicore had obscene amounts of stored research at the time, I was able to hack him back and got between 10K to 20K RP per hack! I ended up having about 160 K of his RP to the 20K RP he had taken from me, and I was Net-positive about 140K, and very happy.

NOTE:
* That was the one time Psicore and I ever tangled in the hacking really, all else has been disable for disable.
* Since he has millions of RP, I think he probably had just gotten Base Pay-out from an auto-pay-out base at the time when I got the chance to hack him.
* Obviously when it comes to getting 10K to 20K per pull that is incredibly rare, and I was happy to 0 him as that was 1-2 times my hourly income for RP at that time.
* Most people in my experience within +/- 40% of my rank I get about 600 to 1200 RP off of for a single Hack. (That is about 2.5% to 5% of my current hourly RP income, and probably aabout 2.5% to 5% of their hourly income as well.)

I don't know how any hacking % chance of success or % payout is calculated beyond the general information as I have not been as interested in those calculations. Personally, I'm more interested in economic, and damage calculations.

Other members are more interested in the calculations of other aspects of the game, so one of them may be able to better define how this works for you using cold hard math.
