Ok, this was weird. Yesterday in the morning, I was at 1184 research per hour. Then later on that day, it was 1191. I thought that was fine, that maybe one of my planets was finally maturing, but this morning, it was back at 1184. Then about six hours ago, it was 1191 again, and now its back to 1184. What the heck is going on?

I just noticed something similar. My hourly rate is 14726 but on my last "shipment" I got 14735. And no, I did not hack someone for 9 points. And no events affecting my research going on. Edit: Added pic. NO changes made to my research production after the shipment

Do any of your planets have a research event boost? Perhaps it's something up with that.

Nope, the only boosts I have are Flux Storms, and I haven't hacked in almost a month.

This happens when the remainder of the sum of points you are supposed to receive is placed into your shipment.
I forget if this occurs every day when your ship rolls over, or if it's every X hours. I think it's at ship roll-over, but seem to remember determining it would happen every X hours. However since the sum is greater than 2 in both instances, it points to it being at ship roll-over, so I guess "X" was 24, this was AGES ago I last thought about this one.
So basically we all get RP from Structures, it is multiplied by a % bonus based on the availability of the plane, the planet population, any special race bonus, any spcial profession bonus, any special artifact bonus, any special event bonus.
Loosly this looks something like this:
Points From structures * ((Availability*1.25)-1) * (1+(Colony Development Level*0.2)) * Race Bonus * Profession Bonus *........* Special Event Bonus = "Produced Research points"
Now For Example say you have 1 planet, and it has 1 structure producing 3 resource points, and 0 Colony Development Bonus
If the planet has availability=0 (-100%/"None"), then it is multiplied by 0, and you get 0 production, if Colony were 100%, you'd get 0 If the planet has availability=4 (+0%/"Average"), then it is multiplied by 1, and you get 3 production, if Colony were 100%, you'd get 6 If the planet has availability=8 (+100%/"Rich"), then it is multiplied by 2, and you get 6 production, if Colony were 100%, you'd get 12
Simple, everything is an integer. What happens though is when you get the values between the ones I called out, or you add in population and or other bonuses like vygoid, or extractor profession, these numbers are no-longer "nice" integers.
For instance, Availability =5 (+25%/"Abundant"), Colony = 2 (+40%), and Race Bonus = 10%, with the same L3 building produces 5.775 points 3*1.25*1.4*1.1=5.775
The game however will Only show you the first significant digit, and will TRUNCATE the rest of the digits. so it will only show "5.7" in your production window.
What's more is that the game only allows integer values for the resource points delivered to you, so if you go to your research screen it will show "5" RP/Hr
But, by all right's you are "Owed" at LEAST that extra .7 an hour, otherwise why would it be showing?
Dan, being the kind an thoughtful Game creator he is decided that the game would add u those extra points from here and there, and hand you them when they totaled up to an integer value. What's more is he decided even though, the planet always only shows the first digit beyond the decimal place, he'd kindly track them all instead.
(Note: There was no way to come up with an infinitely repeating number, as all % multipliers are multiples of 2, therefore so you can never possibility "Lose" points due to rounding)
Face it, it's this Dan the Developer, He's just that cool guys.
What Again I don't rightly remember is if it saves up and gives you that extra little bump when your ship roles over (when you pay upkeep), or every 3-4 hours. Either way if you hit max minerals he STOPS keeping track of the remainder, because at that point ALL production you can't store is LOST.
Man, I literally figured that out August 2010 or so, and was impressed he was so thoughtful, and then forgot about it content that I could never "Miss out". =)
Anyway keep track, add up all your values on all your planets (I actually was doing that to check this, that's how I know he;'s accounting for the full resources produced not just the first decimal place.) you'll see that the resources will dump a bit extra, and it will all equal out you always get full resource production =)

I had a good laugh on that one. I promise to read everything later when I get home. For now... nice effort.

Basics:
* Dan keeps track of how much your planets produce, down to the last decimal place. * The Planet display always only shows 1 decimal place, there can be (and often are) several more. * The Research Page only ever shows 0 decimal places, there can be (and often are) several more. * The research gets delivered to you, but all the stuff in the decimal places is stuck into another variable. * At certain times that extra production is paid out to you.** ** I believe that it's at the time when you pay your ship's upkeep, and the time 12 hours after that.
IN action:
Planet One produces 5.775 MP/Hr On Planet One's "Resources" Tab it shows that it produces 5.7 MP/Hr
Planet Two produces 58.806 MP/Hr On Planet Two's "Resources" Tab it shows that it produces 58.8 MP/Hr
5.775 + 58.806 = 64.581 MP/Hr Total
The Trade screen will show 64 MP/Hr
After 24 hours, the amount of extra resources you SHOULD have produced, but did not receive because the game doesn't let you have fractional production units (nor should it) would be:
0.581*24=13.944.
At that time you will then be given in that shipment an extra allotment of 13 MP.
The only part I'm unsure on anymore is:
1) whether it happens every 12 hours, or every 24; But i think it is every 24.
2) whether the previous day's balance is rolled over to the next day, or if the amount is lost..
3) I believe that if you reach maximum capacity for MP, then because you lose all the MP you produce from that moment on, you lose all the stored MP in that area where Dan tracks the remainder.
I hope that is more clear.

Now, it makes sense. Thanks for clarifying it for the simple minded lol.

he means colony development bonus... starts at 0% (1x multiplier) for a new colony, and increases by 20% (multiplier goes up by 0.2) for each day until it is peaked after 5 days (100% = 2x multiplier)

Pop affects planet production? Sorry, my bad. "Pop Bonus Level" = "Colony Development Level" I was being fast and loose when I wrote that all down. -Q

Trading is somewhat common, but nowhere near as common as someone just finding and keeping a good planet for weeks or months.
